i guess i'm just a big softie, i always start young pups sleeping on the couch with me, tethered short enough that they don't have room to eliminate. i'm a light sleeper and when the pup whines i get up and take it out. with spunky, i think i started crating her when she was about 3 months. nenz laid by her crate and since she was bonded to him she didn't mind being in there with him just a few inches away on the other side of the door. i fed her in there, gave her chews, toys, etc, and a few days after being introduced to the crate, she started inching off the couch and running in there. she preferred the crate to sleeping on the couch with me so i let her keep sleeping there. to this day she still likes her crate, i leave the door open all the time, and she still sleeps there every nite. fluffy threw a fit when i tried crating her. she was 5 months and too big to fit on the couch, so i just tied her on the floor and since she wasn't alone in the room she was fine with that. when i got her she panicked if i left the room. she's much better now. to this day she doesn't like crates, other than sticking her head in spunky's crate occasionally to swipe her food and give me a big poodle grin.

i sit with the door open and tell the pup bedtime then throw treats into the crae to tempt the pup in . once the pup has gone in to get the treats i give a kong or hide chew and shut the door .
if the pup makes a fus i tell it no noise!!
let the pup out every 2 to3 hours for a pee
scrambled egg lies heavy on the stomach and helps the pup to sleep.
DONT GO IN to the pup beacause its crying or you will find it much harder to get him settled
NEVER sleep with your pup as he will expect it all the time
when your pup is let out praise him
feed him in his crate and give plenty of treats and toys
