JGA,

it is my understanding that the SV is more likely not to get involved in personal buissness of it's members. This is about buying a dog, a mated dog at that ......... at what point became it of intrest to the SV ?

Now dont get me wrong, I feel for you, if it is, as you say. Sadly enough this sh**t happens. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you, that you will get what you desired.

As to the phone # of Sabine, it is worth a try, but dont set your hopes to high.

If you wish to further discuss this matter with me, dont hesitate to write or call.

Regards Ulli Dresbach

Every time an American (myself included) gets ripped off by a German the first thing we all want to do is cry the blues to someone who speaks English at the SV.  The reality is that the SV will do nothing about this, other than refer you to a lawyer.  Therefore, I would frankly not bother calling Sabine with this.  Sabine is very busy and while quite helpful (actually unusually accessible for a European) with paperwork issues, registrations, etc - why bother her with something she will tell you straight out the SV will not get involved with?  I'm sure she gets 2-3 calls a week with stories such as yours, but it is the nature of the business and not something the SV will or has (from what I've heard) intervened in.  Whenever you ship dogs and cash off to far off lands you've got to know who you are dealing with and *expect* that something might go awry leaving you ripped off with no recourse.  The Europeans DO NOT believe in the same civil tort and litigious mindset that the Americans do and actually see ripping people off (especially Americans who expect to simply buy whatever they want) as a sort of robinhood-esque sport.

Let us know how it goes, but I can say from personal experience that while she (Sabine) may be able to provide some limited information, there will be nothing she or the SV can formally do.  Your only recourse (as far as I was told in a similar instance) is to hire a German attorney.

Hello Uli, Calvin and Petros,

Thank you for your replies and advice. I did not think Sabine would be able to ehlp, etiher. My concern is when a person who the SV has listed as being in charge of a LG is the one that cheats you, then the SV should know about it,. Whether or not they do anything is a different matter. You would think you could trust a 30+ year GSD person in charge of a LG, or at least  I think you should be able to.

I import dogs every year, and many times I use the same people as contacts. But if a nice dog is posted on this database by someone of high regard by the SV, it is reasonable to expect to be treated honorablly.

I did tell this person I would turn to the database for help, but I will not reveal identity unless I feel I have no other choice.

Thank you again,  Jackie Athon

JGA,

first I would like to thank you, to not start annother bashing contest. As I can see where your frustration comes from, it is my belief that you should follow your claim by any means. I would not let go, but I certainly would do it in a more personal way. I truely wish you succes.( of course that is, if your claim is legitimit)

Calvin,

as I can see what you are saying and furthermore can relay on parts, one thing I believe is way out of line : I dont believe that it is apropriate to refer to Europeans in generell as peopel with a Robin Hood mentallity. The mayority of breeders I know, depend largely on the fact, that they will have other dogs/ pups for sale in the future, therefore they try to mantain a clean record. There are way more dog deals made, that turn out perfect than ones gone bad. Thing is simply, you hear more about the ones gone bad than about the ones gone good.

My experience tells me, there are honest & dishonest peopel all over this world. At a certain point, as with any other deal made over long distance, without the chance to inspect what you are about to aquire, you have to cross your fingers and hope that everything will go smooth.

Regards Ulli

Yikes, 30+ years leading an LG......... that narrows it down quite a bit ......
