TO states: "breeders that actively train and work their own dogs, and ones that train and title dogs from their own breedings. " as one of the requirements - this will cut down on quite a few of the excellent breeders already mentioned.....probably most of them in fact.

Von Haus Gerzabek located in Colorado. A small kennel that has done some nice things with their dogs. Good honest people to deal with. They campaigned their stud male, Amos, who was the '05 reginal Champ. He also has OFA EXCELLENT hips. As well as their brood female, Cate, to SCH2. Then when bred together they produced their female Afra, also OFA EXCELLENT who was SCH3 by 2yr and 2 weeks old. Afra placed 4th in the Akc inagural working dog trial. She also went on to the Nationals and came in 18th being the youngest competitor by 13 months. http://www.vonhausgerzabek.com/index.html

Just remembered the correct name for that trial: The Inaugural AKC Working Dogs Championship. This and Afra's showing at the Nationals were just last year in '07.

Molly - Yes, I noticed many that were mentioned were not breeders who actively work and train their own dogs and progeny.  Definately something I looked at.

Thank you everyone for the wonderful sugguestions both on this post and by PMs!!

Von Haus Gerzabek /Jennifer Corso is indeed a outstanding kennel and great person to do business with. We are very proud she selected our kennel for her purchase of " Evo" a outstanding male puppy  from  Zidane Vom Haus Sevens. Look for Evo and Jennifer to do  very well in the sport. We are waiting for video for our site now of Jennifer's daughter and Evo together now.

Many  more excellent  working line kennels out there not mentioned such as Eurosport a outstanding  working line kennel as well,  we also  title our own dogs from our breedings. I do not train personally but have access to many top trainers in my area  which is a blessing.

Do not soley rely on size of the kennel small or large but past results from their breeding program in general as well as the overall temperament, working ability and health of the dogs. We would be considerated small to the kennels in Europe but they produce  extremely well, look at quality first.

Find a breeder whom you trust big or small and be part of the selection process when ever possible there is no shortage of fine workingline dogs/puppies for anyone looking in whatever location you are in.

Good point, Molly. So, it might be good to look at whether people from local clubs are training and titling from specific breeders. Locals may also have the opportunity to view the parents and have (personal or vicarious) knowledge of a breeders ethics and business practices. If a breeder is producing multiple litters every year, but few, if any, of "the locals" have dogs from that kennel, it could (should?) be a big, red flag.
