Why do show poodles have the 2 balls near their hips? can someone please explain that to me? what's the meaning to it?

The poms are placed over vital organs to help keep them warm whenthe dog enters the freezing waters to retrieve the downed birds. Of course that was the original intent but the style was kept for show. There are only 2 acceptable clips for show if I remember right, this one and the one for puppies but i may be mistaken. I prefer the stylized clips, the more unique the better.

LeNore - correct (I do believe) I had two standard poodles as pets a long time ago before the shepherds...and thats what I gathered from the breeders.
Haha, those pics are hilarious. :) I must say I'm still a little partial to them, although I'll never own one again.
