Larrydee, make no mistake, it's not my words I posted, nor am I part of that group.  I'm brave, but I'm not that brave.  I'm not going head to head with Oprah.  I'm letting the powers that be deal with issues they have louder voices than I.  I merely provided information here as originally requested on a legislative email group of NH citizens.  Everyone here who would like to is requested to forward the letter from John Yates (as done above), post to whatever web boards and e-lists as appropriate.

As for me and a boycott on Oprah, nope.  I trust her respected collegues to educate and inform her of what PETA is really all about.  She's not apt to buy into their propaganda...let's hope :-)

The quote from John Yates ends with:

<Please forward this posting to as many people as you can, and also

cross-post it on message boards. We need to reach as many people as

possible quickly.>

Sorry guys, I should have notated where his letter ended.

I haven't seen the show, and I probably won't, so I doubt I"ll be boycotting anything.

Oprah is a joke!  The only thing that bitch is concerned with, is herself!  Anyone who buys into her crap needs to wake the hell up!

Mother Theresa is rolling in her grave.

I could have taken one years worth of Oprah's money and built everyone in New Orleans a home.  No instead she sends em a hunk of Government cheese and her publicist calls the media to let them know what a generous person she is.

Why doesn't she just concentrate on being a complete bitch to any store employee that doesn't kiss her ass for being Oprah.

She is a two-faced person that is racist.    Anyone that denies that, needs to only look at her political backing for the last 20 yrs.  I don't remember her going on anyone's campaign trail except for Osama Obama's.  I never saw her with Bill, the Bushes, Gore, Lieberman, Reagan, Dukakis, Kerry, or anyone else's.  If it is not a factor, why did Orca publicly state that it is not a racial decision to back Obama?  If I was speaking on behalf of Kerry on the campaign trail, the last thing that I would have in my mind or be spoken is the fact that Kerry and I are white.  What the hell does it have to do with anything?   I don't come home and tell my wife that I wasn't screwing around.  Why would I unless I was?

I get sick of these celebrities that preach all of this garbage and don't do nearly enough themselves.  Oprah's biggest asset is her big mouth and her wallett.  What percentage of her money goes to charity?  I would be willing to guess that it is right around the max limit for a tax deduction.    If she was so concerned, she could be living modestly and giving most of her money to the needy.  Instead she likes to preach about it.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=JW4LLwkgmqA  a link to the beliefs of the Queen of TV

This is truly unbelievable.....that people could twist and turn the word of God into "other teachings" and use it to fit their own lifestyles and not be accountable for their time here on earth. She actually believes there is no sin. She backs Obama. She and all of these actors and celebrities are nut jobs.

I don't think any reputable breeder needs to worry that Oprah saying she will now get her dogs from shelters is going to hurt their business.  After all, the beef industry was so concerned over Oprah saying saying she would no longer eat hamburgers, they sued her (and lost).  When all the dust settled people were still eating burgers and none of the cattle ranchers went broke after all.

I do think in the long run Lisa Lings expose  will shine a bright light on many of the shody breeding practices of  BYBs and puppy mills which will hopefully stop people from buying puppies from them and pet stores.

Oprah is free to do with her money as she pleases, and owes no one an explanation with how she donates it or spends it.  Frankly, I  think if she donates anything, good for her, the motive doesn't matter.   I think building and donating  more than 100 homes is a little bit more than sending them a hunk of government cheese.

This reminds me of when Connie Chung bashed Girl Scouts and cookie sales. The kids had a real hard time that year, with the comments ADULTS made to the "little" girls. IF they really knew what they were talking about, that would be one thing but they did not have a clue......I am hoping with the statement "watch where you are buying your pup from" It will not be a field day on anyone who sells pups.

What is your definition of a BYB? I own one very nice female that I breed once a year. I breed her to a male that I feel will be a good type to type match, in every way. Structure, temperament, conformation, workability, health and hips. I breed for the quality of the puppies I'm producing and when all is said and done, I make very little profit, if any, off the litter. I don't have a fancy professional kennel. I do have a nice single litter set up and a separate "puppy yard" with "interactive toys" for them to stimulate their natural intincts. The puppies are raised by my family and are cared for with much love from us. Does this make me a BYB? Because it sure as hell doesn't make me a puppy mill. It is not only professional breeders, but breeders like me that will be hurt by Oprah's crusade and all the animal rights legislation that keeps popping up. This society seems bent on punishing all for the sins/crimes of a few.

My definition of a back yard breeder is:

one who disregards the standards of the breed (if they even know the standards), has no idea (or knows and  doesn't care) whether or not their dogs or the  offspring of their dogs have even a chance of equaling,  let alone improve the standard.  The people who think they should breed because it's "a free country".  The people who's dogs crowning achievement is they make excellent footstools.  The people who advertise in the paper because no one who is experienced in the breed will buy from them.  The people who are doing it to make a few bucks.

As far as the Oprah show goes, you may be right, you may be wrong.  It hasn't aired yet, so until it does I'm not passing judgment.

well, you could watch the show, and if you feel the info is biased and unfair, email her offices and present the opposite side. explain the differences between a puppy mill, back yard breeder, hobby breeder and "regular" breeder. whatever she is, we can probably all agree she's pretty damn smart. she's a self made billionaire, after all. btw, i don't watch her.
