The power of the "Media Machine" is overwhelming.  All it takes, is an article like this BS, to have the HSUS and their ilk, spread the word that a Sleeve is a tool of a dogfighter.  God forbid, someone has a treadmill in their rec room.

Anyone who owns a dog or dogs, who can be perceived as a performance, protection, or aggressive type dog, needs to be squeaky clean.  Drugs, Illegal behavior, and practices, don't mix with dogs.  Throw some hateful, troublesome, neighbors into the mix, and its a recipe for an adventure through the legal system.

D'oh!

What a bunch of uneducated idiots...you would think the police people with police dogs would have their own sleeves for training and would know better.  Guess not.

Hodie, no i keep the handcuffs and leather products in a safe place

Abhay, i guess the only people who need to worry are those that are doing something wrong?   I have heard about the treadmill issue also and can only reply "idiots".

So, is it just me or does anyone else think that if we made our sporsts and intentions more public people may start to see them as just that. SPORTS.   Im sure PETA  has had their say about hearding (Oh the poor sheep being chased by dogs),  not to mention that million of hunters teach their dogs to point out something to kill.

Why is any dog sport thought so ill of?  Just because we teach our dogs to bite a sleeve (ie, a prey item)?

I like your point CEPH about the police.  My only comment would be that there are a lot of people who do not have a problem with what the police do, but will be much more concerned when you or i try and do it.

Drugs and illegal behavior don't mix with anything....Throw hateful neighbors in, holy crap!   If you are cooking meth, and growing weed I'll give you a real adventure through the legal system.  I guarantee the charges I put on dealers don't get dropped, plea agreements in  the cases I work mean jail time.

Sorry but growing marijuana is a sore point with me right now.  People who grow weed seem to think it's no big deal.  I didn't think it was the crime of the century until a friend of mine was shot and killed while we executed a search warrant for a grow op in January.  He was #1 on the entry team and I was # 3.  He would have turned 36 on Sunday, I will be at the memorial service with his wife and 3 kids.

Slamdunc,  condolences about your friend and partner.

I think grow ops have become bigger, more professional operations in the last few years.  It's no longer the local hippie growing their own supply of low grade weed.

How many bite sleeves?  Four, and five various bite developers.

Slamdunc:  It has become apparent that many think there is nothing wrong with marijuana.   Regardless what or how one thinks of a particular issue.  If it is illegal, then it is illegal.  Sort of like those that think it is okay for illegal border crossers to be here, as long as they are just working, and not commiting crimes.  IT IS still illegal.

As for the sleeve mentioned in the story.  I did not read that it was mentioned as a "criminal tool", nor that the cops stated it was such.  Prosecutor Mabe is quoted as saying that a bite sleeve that is commonly used to train fighting dogs was found at this location.  My question would be this concerning that statement:  Did the reporter do a lousy job explaining what the prosecutor said?  Did the prosecutor mean that a sleeve is for training dogs that fight each other or fight humans.  Do those that train dogs to fight each other, use sleeves?  I know the answer, but we should ask someone who is an expert on fighting dogs against each other.  Any "out there"?

No where in the article were there sweat shirts mentioned.   Yet, some see them there.  There IS DRUGS mentioned though.

Yesterday, when I saw the article, I called Shawna Morrison.  I asked her what breed of dog was involved.  She informed me that the dogs were said to be American Bulldogs.

I informed her, that a "Bite Sleeve" is a tool used in the legal sport of Schutzhund. When she saw that I wanted to discuss the article, she said that a troopper had been shot, and she had to get off the phone.

The media, has literally ruined the APBT breed.  The media, has been the only mentor of a new army of cruel APBT owners.  They have been brought up on all the crazy things the media has sensationalized, and thrown out there, to feed the monster they created.

Its a given, that drugs and illegal behavior don't mix with anything.  If LE shows up at your door in regards to drugs or anything illegal, it opens the door for other possible charges. These other charges may be valid or invalid. It doesn't matter if your innocent or guilty. Once charged, the bond is still the same for an innocent person as it is for a guilty one.  The defense lawyer charges the same to innocent and guilty alike. The time you are looking at, is also the same if convicted.

Two moons: A suspended sentence for making and pocessing meth, there ya go.

The above sums it up.  That sounds like something an Oregon judge would do/has done.  Throw in a misquoting and uniformed reporter and it all makes a warped amount of sense.
