During Nam the soldiers were frowned upon.

So you've been in the Guard Ugly?  I never would have guessed....do tell about your experiences since my 3 years clearly dont matter.  I dont disagree that the National Guard is over deployed - and I feel that the states should have more control over their Guards than the Federal Government does...but lets be real here.  Most people that are in college now knew that the Guard was being deployed when they signed up.  I knew it when I signed up for ROTC almost 5+ years ago (yeah...been there a while).

And dont forget Ugly - I'm one of those kids.  So are many of my buddies in my unit.  These are two pictures from last year...the first one I am top right...I am since out of the Corps and wear greens now.

Dont fight the fight for people who arent interested in having others who dont really know fight it.  Saying that people who joined the Guard didnt know is an insult to many soldiers intelligence - yes - there were some...right back when the war started...but the current generation of College-Guard students are smart enough to know that maybe, or probably they just might be deployed.  This part of the discussion doesn't involve what the original purpose of the Guard or what it was supposed to do...it involves what it is doing now...and only those lacking common sense would look at the current status and join thinking it's never going to happen.

Cate-I never needed the Guard. I played football to pay for my schooling.

Youre a very pretty girl. IMO,  You have No business, fighting this war.  It is Israels' War & the Neo CONs war.  Let the globablists, Oil Barons & Neo CONs send their kids off to Iraq. To date, only 6 of 535 US Congress have family serving. Neo CONs have none.   Probably all safe on scholarship at Yale, however.

My very close friend has done 3 tours.  Will Not re enlist or discuss Iraq.   Another friend, & My regular subcontractor,  has done 2 tours, currently there. He is 43 years old.    When he signed up for the Guard (20+yrs ago) this Occupation was only being planned.  He, like most, Had no idea what was in store for him then, as this Disaster in Iraq is only 5 years old.  Many Guard, have already serve on a least a few deployments & are well over 25 yrs old.

Katrina, CA Fires...all had in common, a lack of assistance from National Guard,  being deployed overseas. National Guard means National.  Not counter insurgency specialists & partaking in an Occupation, On Lies, by the way.

I sense an honesty in you,  but a torn confusion as well. You wont get the truth from your superiors,  our politicians or the media.  Ive linked 2 sites for you to garner a different perspective. You may like them.

Cate..I forgot this.    One of my favorites.  My relative has had many articles published here.  You can run through it in about 30 seconds.  Might remind you of modern Iraq?..  Law of physics-For every action, there is an opposite & equal reaction.

If I were young enough, I would be over there fighting right along side the rest.

shelley,

that's just what i told my son.  he was a year over in iraq and we are holding our breath, praying he won't be deployed again.  i told him, "if i were still in my twenties i'd be over there with you, but i'm not, so the best i can do is to keep working and paying my taxes so our troops will have what they need to get the job done and return home."

i wish the war was over.  we all do, but the work is not yet done.

Ziegenfarm & SS... News for you.   Iraq Not the beginning of the end, its merely the End of the Beginning.

This will be a 50 year Occupation. They will fight us with their teeth if they have to.  History repeats itself, & Blood washes very slowly.   We are isolated, Broke,  & its now just getting started.  And many noted Jewish historians (Benjamin Friedman & Jake Bernstein, both prediceted it in the 1960s & 1980s respectively).

I dont know how some Chickenhawks can say.."Id go."     What part of Gods Commandments dont you get?   God does not  revoke his Commandments for political geo-political hegemony & motivations... Lies in this case.   This is not a war for Defense or Freedom, but for Oil & Israel.

A terrible Occupation, thats left over 5 million Iraqui Orphans & 4.5 million refugees.  We are creating more hatred & "Terrorists" (I love that word).   Those that resist Occupation,   are called "Terrorists" Rather than those that Are The Occupiers.    -Kicking in doors of sleeping families, driving over children in their Humvees, torturing innocents, paying bribes for Peace & Ceasefires & thats called "liberation."  What a canard.

IEDs, Sniper fire, Mortar shells in your bed, in the supposed "Safe" Green zone.  A Civil war & Insurgency where there was none.  All of it Unnecessary.  Enjoy the upcoming Recession, it hasnt even started yet.

Ugly I think you are correct. I hope not. We cant stay in Iraq, we cant afford it. These nobid contracts are killing us. I know two buddies, both very conservative that have moved out of the Country. They can have better life, one in Argentina, one in Uruguay. I am afraid the American dream is dead, and conservatives pulled the trigger.
