gsdterrier - check out this site: http://www.naturaldogfood.com/ might help as she cooks her dogs food.
gsdlvr2 - I think its an OK question. I feed some deer and elk meat. I have a local butcher that I get the trim from during hunting season. I fill up a good size freezer with it. It is free, except I do bring him and his employees a few cases of beer during the course of the season. Not necessary, but they like to see me come and don't mind toting out the heavy buckets. It is also good clean meat. I wonder if people wouldn't be upset as most would make good burger.
So in answer to the post for me, part of the meat is free, I also use Hutterite chickens. I get about 5 cases at a time, each case is about 60#. It costs $120.00. It lasts about 3 -4 months for 3 dogs.
Then I ad either K9-Showstopper or Canine Complete for a supplement, plus fish oil caps. Also organ meat usually beef liver sometimes chicken giblets. Canned fish, cottage cheese, plain yogurt. I grind veggies, usually whats available in the frig but I did just buy a 10# bag of So-Jos Europa (fruits & veggies dehydrated) and I do like the convience of it, about $50.00 not sure how long it will last, they just get a couple heaping tbls a day. I sometimes have left over rice or pasta etc. so they get some grains too. This last paragraph I really haven't paid attention to the cost. The organ meat is probably about $10.00 a month. But all in all I think it is cheaper for me than good dog food. I keep some Orijen on hand and that is pretty spendy if I fed it all the time.
