Last of all  and most important have a thick skin if german shepherds are your choice everyone will want to discredit anything you do and anything you say and every dog you own and breed.  You better have a passion for the breed and a strong nervous system.

That's a great definition for what I call "breeder aggression".

Opps forgot one thing darylehret made me remember...if breeding german shepherds never let a poster bother you on the pedigree data base!  Marlene

PREPARE FOR THINGS TO GO WRONG! its not just about saving for studs, bedding, heat lamps, food and toys ect.... If things go wrong before/during/after birth you need to have the knowledge, ways and means to be able sort out the situation to the best of your ability. If your vet isnt present or close by,make sure your able to drop everything and have transport ready. DONT EXPECT AN EASY RIDE!

#1 Don't Breed.   If you need the advise of the people on this board, you should not be considering breeding.  Most reputable and knowledgable dog people already know the contents and information spewed on this messageboard.  Leave the breeding to them.  There are enough puppies out there that your vast improvement of the breed will only flood the market any further.

who bit your bum!!!!

by incubus22 on 24 March 2008 - 13:03

its just a little bit of reassurance Don, Nobody who is seriously thinking about breeding is going to pay any attention to that last comment, so is that it then, nobody but established breeders are allowed to breed ever again? everybody has to start somewhere, and this message board is full of TOP breeders who i hope care enough to input a little of their knowledge to help ensure good, healthy and WELL BRED pups are brought into this world, as you said the market is flooded with pups that have poor historys and disgusting qualitys of life, not just bred by people that don't care, but by people that havn't got that fountain of knowledge, and as you WILL know that only comes with experience. instead of turning people (who might actually give a you know) away, can we be a little more practical and help. Some folks do come here to learn, not shoot everything that moves.

we have always kept in contact with our pups new owners, theres nothing wrong in wanting to know how they're getting on.

Two Moons

It would be a bad idea for someone to start breeding dogs as a business right now.    That ship has sailed.

Breed with a purpose, breed quality,be ready to invest alot of time and money.  Dont plan on getting rich anytime soon..lol

If what you produce isn't worthy then stop.

Take your time if you have it.   Dont make things worst that they all ready are.
