Zdog...hahaha, you are right!

I couldn't find any regional clubs for Mondio.  But, I did find a French ringsport club in my state and am contacting them right after I finsih this post! I don't know if my dog could do it but it sure does look cool to try!!

As I was reading the regulations, I noticed all the heel off leash work at all levels requires the dog to be muzzled. This kind of sends up a red flag to me.  But, I don't know anything. I am assuming the dogs are muzzled because they might try to bite people?  The ScH dogs do not wear muzzles.  Can anyone comment on this policy?

Maybe this sport is for very "hard" dogs that are aggressive in public. If so, my interest would disappear.

OMG....

yes that must be it Smiley//// all the ring dogs are very "hard" and aggressive in public...

what does hardness have to do with being aggressive while heeling or in public, or a muzzle?

Common people get real. The dogs are muzzled in one of the excercises which is heeling off lead. All other exercises, accept for one,  are done without a collar and lead and no muzzle. The muzzle thing is a temperment exercise to show that the dogs can accept the constraint and is willing to cooperate while being muzzled. Try muzzling your pet and see how it reacts. Ring dogs are worked in bitework strictly in prey and there is less defense stimulation than in Schutzhund. They do however love to fight the decoy all out of sport (fun).

I suggest you go on the internet and have a look at the CSAU temperment test that every dog has to go through before being allowed to perticipate in the first Ringsport test which is the Brevet.

You have a better chance of being bit by a dog while attending a AKC/CKC OB event than at a Ring event.

I believe alot of it has to do with what the handler/owner wants to do with the dog.

Schutzhund and Ring sports are VERY different. Some dogs can't handle doing both, and Sch is a requirment for breeding SV standard..so the majority will train/title/actively compete in Sch versus Ring sports, and many will stay strictly Sch than to dip in ring.

I don't know much about French Ring, and I'm not sure about American dogs, but I do follow this guy through Facebook. He is titled and training for French Ring... And he is a German Showline!

Thank you for the additional comments..even the rude, sarcastic ones!

At my CGC last night, the examiner was a French/ScH/other stuff (sorry can't remember the other one) competitor. I asked about the muzzle thing and she stated that it was to see if they have the temperament to allow being muzzled and it was a requirement in France (but she told me much more kindly than the above poster as she understood I was new to protection sports).

Dawulf, that dog sure is handsome!! Thanks for posing his link!!

Sara,
Sorry if I came over rude . It's just that the "biting" sports are so misunderstood.

Dawwulf,

Xenon is a Canadian bred showline out of the Bullinger kennels in Western Canada. The breeder has always put very much importance on the temperment of her stock also they are not roach or overangulated. Xenon is a handsome dog if that type is to your liking. Xenon has his FR Brevet and one of the two required legs of this FRI. He should get the other leg at the next available trial. Xenon has a very profient handler and has many titles.
