I didn't notice the wearing on the head, but do think that the right socket is not as deep or as tight as the left and I don't think it's the result of positioning. The rim of the socket on that side is deviated inwardly which indicates some looseness. The rim of the left socket is normal and makes an almost straight line behind the head while thelright side is "cupped" and shaped like a backward "C". I hope I'm explaining this clearly. I did look at the drawings on the OFA site and now think this dog might have received a fair, but it's really hard to second guess OFA since they are so inconsistent.

I agree . OFA is a crap shoot. I had one that that looked much worse go Good ( I was thinking of a pup for a replacement) and had one way better go Fair. I am scared to re submit she might go borderline or mild the next time.

I don't think the positioning is "bad" and don't think the hips look that bad. I'll guess passing OFA, Fair or Good. If fair, I'd think it would be because of the necks being somewhat thickened. I don't see a problem with the seating or sockets, or positioning.

position could be better but still decent and useable for evaluation. left hip neck shows a little bit of thickening but no remodeling ,femur is smooth, so is the pan , depth of sockets both sides is very good . defiantly a passing hip development

Look, when the body of the dog is trotated on the spine as the axis, one hip rises and the other hip falls closer to the film, making the closer hip larger and giving more socket coverage. Unless the xray dose and exposure is set just right, one cannot get good clarity of the ball and socket, making the joint look worse than it is. That is why an xray as lousy as this should not be sent in and should be repeated for free. Try a vet who does a lot of OFA xrays next time, this one doesn't get it.

OK thank you everyone for what has been posted. It gives me an idea as to what they must be thinking.
My vet who did this x-ray has done other for us and they were sent in and fine. But i dont think this is his best but i sent it in.
The last time this dog was X-rayed she came back Mild Dyplaisa ( sublusation, Unilateral right side.) Dog came in heat the nest day.
This X-ray was taken 5 weeks ago - She came back with the same rating.
This dog jumps my 6 foot fence and does the wall and jump with no problem . She is like a deer. I did not see anything that makes me or anyone elce think that her second set was going to go MILD. In a way we were wondering if they even looked at these at all.
I have many people say that i should send them to SV because they only do German shepherds and just to see what they say,..
Thanks again for everyone who responded.

Preston, In 40+ years in GSD I have never ever - not even once heard of OFA rejecting an x-ray based on bad positioning. Not saying they shouldn't - they should. Just never heard of them doing it which is one reason why I believe OFA is such a crap shoot ( 'course there are several other reasons also).

I never have had one rejected for bad positioning either, but I have always examined them first at the vet taking them to make sure they were positioned properly and were good enough to merit sending in. Also, laxity can appear in any bitch up to 6 weeks on eaither side of her heat due to hormone effects (causes swelling in the joints due to excessive fluid which pushes the balls out a bit.

Never had any of my own dogs' x-rays rejected due to poor quality, but do have a few friends that has happened to. I also remember OFA's rejecting a few taken by one of the vets I worked for years ago. However, when you think about how many get a better rating with a second xray, you have to wonder if they shouldn't be a little pickier about what they do accept.
It would be interesting to hear what the SV would say about this xray.
