 will look at it.

I had never thought to just add hot water, have always boiled, then simmered for 8 minutes (lol I first typed 8 MONTHS:-) talk about cooking:-)) etc.

There is alot of grains in it...you add your own protein source. It has done really well by my little dogs (a papillon and a maltese mix). I think it would be almost too expensive for my shepherds. You buy the food PLUS the protein source, plus of course the oil (I use dr. harvey's health and shine as the oil, though I really dislike flaxseed oil, for me I had to have it be a little easier.) but with the cost of the protein also to add to it, it was just too much to feed to all the bigger dogs. The little dogs like it, but as I said, I just am finding it hard to keep on top of. I wonder what it would end up costing me to feed to ONE shepherd and the two little dogs. Will need to kind of check that out. AT least it doesn't have egg product which is what I think the one shepherd may be allergic to.

I will look at orijen to try to find cheapest source too. Then compare the two and figure in additional protein costs....Thanks for info thus far guys!

Where is the Meat Protein in Dr Harveys i see none at all, Orijen is 42% Protein and the Meat Source should be foirst in the list not grains or fillers

If you have to add Protein to a Feed then it will be more expensive

Although some  may think 42% protein is high they can always buy another top brand with less protein and bring it down that way.

For me Orijen is okay on its own, the Dogs look great on it

there IS no protein source in Orijen, actually you're supposed to add protein and oil to it as per instructions. I always add beef since it's easier and my one little one seems to react to a couple of other protein sources. It's basically a base for adding your own protein. the little ones have done very well on it and better since adding the vetraceuticals, but I"m still always looking for a quality kibble to make life easier. If I have to stick with it I will...but if Orijen works well I may try that for a bit and see. Just researching it for the moment....

Shasta this must be a typo  "there IS no protein source in Orijen"? Orijen is 70% meat and 30% veggies and fruit. It comes to 40% protein I think ,42% for puppy food. I don't use alot of it feeding mostly RAW. My sons dog is on it mostly though with a little meat and her coat looks great. My dogs dig right in when I offer it to them so I guess it palatable enough though I haven't tried it myself LOL! It smells super fresh when you open the bag too. Just wish I could find it locally and get out of the shipping charges...

Orijen is a kibble with it's own meat or fish protein source.

Dr. Harveys is a dry for4mula of fruits and vegetables in it in a power form.  Then you add meat and fish oil.      I didn't like it because it had grains in it.    At the time I used Urban Wolf which is like Dr Harveys but didn't have grain in it.

Hi Shasta. You have it round the wrong way, Orijen has 42% meat or fish proteins,

 Dr Harvey none

I cannot see the point of using a food deviod of Meat Proteins of course the Dr Harvey will have proteins from the Grain Content, but that is vegetable protein, but not Meat Protein

Grrr not sure why I couldn't copy/paste but anyway.... if you are interested in Orijen the website I mentioned before that changed their shipping policy has once again changed it back due to all the emails they got concerning it.... so if you go to www.doggiezbest.com you can buy Orijen Adult for $57.99 and that includes the shipping. Shipping is free on all orders over $40.00. When you go to the checkout type FREE in the coupon code. If you feel like it tell them Trailrider sent you, they said they would give me a free dog treat, but it doesn't matter this is the best price I have found this food anywhere yet. Dog treats are fun though  They also have an assortment of other organic stuff I plan to check out, they have frozen chubs but are still trying to find a way to ship....

You Guys have it made over there in the USA and Canada

I pay  $92 dollars for a 13.5 sack of Orijen over here in Belgium

But its worth every penny to see the Dogs look so fit and well

that along with a little Salmon Oil and a Vitamin E capule keeps them spot on

Steve
