Gonna bore you all with pics ! But hope it shows that in our pups case she was born with the level of drive she has .. alot ..
we believe it was in her from day one. She is 3/4 showline ( mainly german showline) and 1/4 tiekerhook lines.
We chose her for showing.. and I've never chosen a pup for working so I wont pretend to be qualified on talking about drives etc ..Our sheps have always been pets first and foremost but they have all had an inherent but varying degree of ball /toy drive from day one .
I have to say she is our first extremely drivey pup. I have absolutely no doubt hard working lines are drivier but she is nothing like we have experienced before ( having owned GSds since 1980's) and she is hardwork but great fun! She pushes boundaries all the time but is so eagre to please!
Re your dog and its ball ..For me they are born with a certain level of drive ..I believe whats in them is in them so to speak!! I think you can direct and develop inherent abilities to the best you can but if a pup is not drivey its just not..
Here is our girl to show you , from day one she has had an interest in toys ,,This interest was her own and not perpetuated..,, when I went to see her first time she was 5 weeks old and running about with adult kongs and ragging a hessien toy ( and her brother!!) and she meant it!!! she was never still!!
For me it was a sign of things to come !! and she is still the same .. She ponces and plays with anything that she knows has the capability to move even when the item is still!!!
You can see her at various ages of pupyhood ,always with or chasing a ball/toy /or anything really!!
