Dog food seems to be a never ending subject on this forum with almost as many opinions as their are members.  Can we all be right??

Why pay money for Beet Pulp, the Guts has been taken out of the Sugar Beet and its whats left makes up the filler for Dog Food, Plus look at the amount of meat on the package in ratio to fillers lke beet pulp and Grains

i feed rc gsd mixed with a little nature's balance kibble along with 1/2 can of merricks wingaling in the am; in the pm they get the kibble mixed one of nature's balance raw (venison, beef, lamb organic chicken). i give a raw egg on occasion and supplement with missing link plus, ester-c and ha. dogs are doing great and their coats are shiny, teeth are great, breath is good, stools good and unless my husband sneaks them cheese, they don't have smelly farts. they also get raw bones on occasion (lamb or venison usually), bits of carrot, yoghurt. no cottage cheese cuz angus always throws it back up the next morning.

Here is something interesting, my Father has fed Purina dog chow to his  Great Pyranese for 14 years and the dog is doing great, he laughs at me for spending $40.00 on a bag of Royal Canin (30# bag) and he get's a 50# bag of Purina for $20.00.

Go Figure!!!!!!!!!!!

blue my friend breeds rotties and has 2 - 12 year old rotties, something i thought was almost impossible. He also feeds purina dog chow. You should see his puppies, beautiful. I wonder if I am spending too much on dog food sometimes.  My rottie died of cancer when she was 5 years old. she was on a super premium dog food.

Blue I think you are right lol. heck I just remembered a Golden retriever breeder that  had incredible looking dogs. Show dogs too. he fed Purina Hi pro. Damn this was about 15 years ago. in naples fl. The ones that werent show dogs, would go to a non profit guide dog school in the naples area.

I used to feed Pedigree canned formulas as well and my American Eskimo girl did fine on it for 13 years. She's still alive and well, but is now on Solid Gold Holistique Blendz, supplemented with Missing Link Plus and is doing great - she loves Solid Gold. I've fed Royal Canin to my dogs before with good results, though my girl did get a bit sick of it after a while, but I think you're dog should do fine on it. I've also fed Nutro Natural Choice lamb & rice in the past with good results, plus my dogs enjoyed it longer than Royal Canin.

One good thing about RC is that my dogs breath is 99% better. When she was on home made food her breath was of a rotting meat, it was really bad. Her stools are ok, some days are good some days arent that perfect :) .

Dont you find though, when you give human food to your dog with knibles the stools goes a bit soft? Cus that happens to my dog. The only thing i can give its raw veggetables...

I am sure I read at Peta that Purina Show carries terrible tests on dogs... www.peta.com

I know Iams does for sure: www.petasearch.org/texis/search
