 Sueincc,

I understood your point exactly and it was clear to me. Sometimes we all read things too quickly and miss a word here or there.

by FionaDunne on 02 February 2008 - 23:02

No, you didn't, sueincc.  I didn't mean to imply that.

Apparently I did, though - and took the thread off topic.  By "latest and greatest" I meant to imply and should have said "accepted practice and belief by some".  I didn't meant to make it sound like this was something "new".  It's not.  It's still not a practice I believe in.

It's like hodie and others have said, and I agree...

It is unnecessary to keep a dog confined like this to train it and if one has to do this, then in my opinion, they do not know how to train.

It's unacceptable and cruel and the O.P. (Yvette) should do everything possible to prevent BF from doing this to her dog, too.

Just to be 100% clear, my opinion is the same as Hodies.  I think this guy has taken a perfectly acceptable training technique and over done it to the point of cruelty.

Kerschberger couldn't have stated it any better.  She is on the mark 100% on this one.

LOL.  sueincc:

I was responding to your post just above hodie's:

Specifically:

Exactly what I was trying to say, and apparently failed miserably in getting my point across!

Look at the times, dear.  We all posted during the same minute.

You have a good evening anyway.

OY -  sometimes it is more evident than others how much is lost in these conversations without voice inflection, etc..!

No. I would never train my girl like this or any dog for that matter. I would not even suggest it to anyone. My DaKota was abuse enough when she was younger. I didn't want to further it on her anymore. I know my Boy Friend means well, but doesn't know enough to ask other trainers out there. I did my own training using the internet & OB classes. The only problems I have had with DaKota's training was most OB classes here do treat or toy training. DaKota does not want neither while training. She really shine with praise only. When we first started, I did have my driver's lisence.

I live in the country. My Boy Friend claimed we only should work in our yard. It worked ok for home, but at my parents' house in the city is way different.

i take my dogs for a 3 mile run every nite. nenz is never crated and stays in one area of the house. spunky is in her crate most of the time. if i leave the door open she stays there anyway. i call her over to the couch sometimes but she gets antsy after a few minutes and runs back to her crate. i shut the door to her crate when company is over, as they don't really want a 60 pound dog bouncing all over their laps. i think nenz misses his crate, he hasn't had one since i got her, not enough room in the house for two crates. he runs into hers sometimes and i have to tell him, no that's hers not his. i've had some people tell me it's mean to keep her in there, yet she will stay there of her own free will, with the door wide open.
