Hi Ullie,
No horsemeat for us and I have to admit that's not a problem for me. One of my first dogs ate canned horsemeat before it was outlawed and it gave her horrible gas. It was a commercial food, so it could have been something other that the horse that did that. I'm not sure if it has passed yet, but there is/was a bill pending here that would make it illegal for anyone in the US to export horses intended to be slaughtered. The price of horsemeat for human consumption might keep going up.
How did you litter turn out?
Dominic, briefly an elimination diet is a homemade food made with as few ingredients as necessary using novel protein sourcse to which the dog has never been exposed - elk and lentils would be good choices for most dogs. If the dog responds, then you add in other ingredients one at a time and keep records of any adverse responses. Here's link to a good website that explains it in detail and if you google - elimination diets dogs- you'll come up with a lot of additional information. I fed my first GSD an elimination diet and found it was hard at first to remember to control every single thing that went into his mouth - treats, flavored chews, the dog is allowed nothing other than what is in the diet. After a month of so, it became routine and a lot easier. As it turned out, his probem was not food, but we needed to eliminate that up front. Most commercial allergy diets are not great, it's better to just make your own.

Hey Blitzen,
the litter turned out very nicely. I still have 2 males, that I have to sell.January is not a good month to have Puppys. Their father, Astana Alfons, just won annother show, he truely is one heck of a dog. I bet we will hear more from him.
Pretty good link that you provided, good reading. It can be quite an ordeal to find out what causes allergies, and more and more I come to the conclusion that we should put much more consideration into what we feed our dogs.
Regards Ulli

I'll take a look, Ulli. Looks like I'm going to the Sieger in September. Will you be there? It will be my first trip to Europe and I'm getting excited already.

Hey, that is great, it will be my pleasure to meet you there ! I, for sure will be there, I am thinking of showing a female of mine, just got to wait it out how she will devellop, and show her once or twice. The show season here is about to start and I am getting, as every year, pretty excited and eager to see all the peopel involved !
Great thing that you will make it to "good old Germany", I bet you will like it.
Keep in touch, so we can set something up, or let me know if I can be of help with your plans.

I'll keep in touch and let you know of my plans, Ulli. I'm not a flyer and dread the 7, 8 hour flight, but I'm going to do it anyway. Most of my family is from Germany and I've always wanted to see the country and go to the Sieger and now I finally have the chance to do both.

My dog with food allergies gets inflammed ears and itchy feet/forelegs when he has protein he is sensitive too(his is chicken, poultry).
When my female had a rash on the lower half of her body, especially under the arms and on her belly it was a yeast overgrowth. VERY itchy and bothersome.
