Hear, Hear, Hodie! We need to hear it again and again!

Far too many litters are being produced. In most litters, one or two dogs will be standouts, and the rest will likely go to pet homes. Breeders need to pay more attention to where their pups are going, so they don't wind up in a shelter. And yes, they SHOULD BE MICROCHIPPED! (I've said that before, as well as a lot what you said above, in other threads. If dog fanciers don't become more responsible, they will be forced to do it by legislaton.)

All my dogs have been rescues up until now. I never intended to rescue....I didn't find them, they found me. I can't begin to tell you how rewarding adopting these rescues has been. If you want to read about one of them, the story of my first GSD, I've posted it in the new LH GSD forum under "Stories and Brags."  She was 5 years old, weighed 35 lbs. and was half blind with pannus. The vet told me she probably wasn't going to live. Within a few months, with lots of TLC, proper medical care and food, she became a healthy, happy dog with normal eyesight.

Star is my first registered dog, and although she has excellent bloodlines, I'll be thinking VERY hard before I ever breed her. Even having a few titles under your belt, and an 'a' stamp or OFA does not make a dog breed-worthy, IMO. They'd also have to have outstanding temperment, movement and conformation. Very few dogs have the 'whole package'.

I think there are far too many people in the schutzhund and show world who put their egos before the love of their dogs. And that is very sad.

Sunsilver-

I'm thinking no one gets into rescue on purpose. They find us, and its so satisfying and so rewarding when things turn out well that it becomes almost an addiction. I'm hooked. I just wish I had more time and space and could help many more of the wonderful dogs dumped by stupid arseholes in shelters every year.

Someday... Sigh...
