When it comes to cauda equina, one of the most notable examples I've seen was in a private video taken of Yago Wildsteiger Land (http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/142.html) at a German Sieger Show when he was older. He does not appear to have a long back.
I will never forget a GSDCA National Specialty where Ralph Roberts was judging intersex. He pointedly came over and lifted the tail of a well-known sable champion after gaiting--much to the embarassment of the handler.
One clinical distinction of cauda equina (as opposed to DM) is that it causes pain. The old Am-bred female I had with it was very ataxic in the rear (as if her legs were held together with rubber bands).
I truly don't have any evidence that a longer body predisposes dogs to spinal issues--particularly when many working line dogs have longer backs. Most spinal sports injuries tend to involve the T-L junction.

Blitz has a gay tail. Should I be happy?

Thank you so much everyone for your advice. Ibo was so good with small childern, friendly neighbors, and us as a family, I am really gun shy. He was just so sick. So many seemingly unrelated conditions. I can't tell you how many diarehha messes I have cleaned up in my bedroom, living room and car. :) Special meals I made to try and help him, rice anyone? I have extra boxes now that he's gone. If anything he was overly friendly, not aloof with strangers. He would go everywhere with us, I don't think he particularly liked our boat it was loud, but if we were in it he would jump in, and if closed in the house he would figure out how to open our sliding door. Yellow Rose I am in Wisconsin. Thanks.

Preston, all those tests sound expensive, but can't be any where near as much as all the vet bills we paid out. Thank you
