Yvette, Good for you for trying different things. If she liked the herding you could still try AHBA or ASCA arena style herding - many GSDs excell at it(irregardless of what Sue might say) and I haven't seen an electric fence anywhere near an arena I've worked in. Or you could try the ducks she might not associate them with the e fence. Re treat training. It actually should be a "reward" as a marker not a treat - for many dogs simple "yes" works as the reward. What does she respond to around home and how did she learn her house manners behaviors? Those should give you clues. The other side of treats is it doesn't have to be food. Can be an old toy or cut up piece of ball or clothes or whatever floats her boat. Years ago I was showing my bitch in breed who was a rock hound so what I baited her with to stack her was not liver but a rock. Hey it worked. ( 'sides I HATE liver and the taste in my mouth) Also on the food the reason she may not have responded is simply because you were feeding her too well outside of training. The training tidbits should be part of the daily ration not on top of it which I'm sure you know but just in case a newer person doesn't I thought I'd mention it. Have you found anything that she goes crazy for or seems really passionate about - toys, clothes, a specific food, a sound, the water hose? How about tracking - does she like to use her nose on the ground or is she an air scenter who would like to do the hide and seek thing. We've always played games w/ the dogs around the house and I've never had a dog that didn't enjoy hide and seek(some better at it than others). You either leave them on a down stay in one room or have someone hold them and then go hide - behind a door, in the shower, in a dark place in the hall and if you're young and spry under the bed. Whistle once as a release and the hunt is on. If you're really good at hiding you might have to play the hot and cold game with them w/ occasional other whistles. Sometimes they are in such a rush they go right by you (figuring they KNOW where you are). I love it when an older one finds you right away and then "pretends" she didn't so the young ones keep looking.
