Talk about ruthless. The fucking dog took shrapnel in his spine for his country. I'm fairly certain a human would be eligible to retired from duty after such an incident. He watched his handler die and he sat there in pain from his own wounds and because the military puts a 10 year date on his retirement, we should discount all thoughts of an early discharge? There are other pups on their way to take his place. On another note, I hope they routinely test these dogs for battle readiness and not just count them in for 10 years to the day of service. Even our dogs will be emotionally ruined or at least set back with certain experiences. Like someone else suggested the dog might crumble if put to the test again.

Lots of soldiers have taken shrapnel and went back to to fight. It's easy to make those of us on this side of the fence seem heartless and ruthless, and i'm waiting for someone to tie me into 9-11 and being un-patriotic or un-american, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Fact is, the story is incomplete. The one I read yesterday said he was with another handler and recovered from his wounds and working. I suspect the odds are much higher that he can perform his job and perform it well, as most well trained dogs can even after switching handlers, and would be saving the lives of the rest of the soldiers over seas. If he's not overseas he could be doing it here in America. Bomb dogs aren't in surplus, and if they were it still wouldn't matter much to me. our airports, schools, shipping docks etc are in need of dogs like him. This dog was still trained and paid for by our military, is still able to perform his duties, could be reasinged to a thousand different, safer, yet still important jobs, but instead because election time is rolling around and the media got involved, it became a PR feel good story, and put more lives at risk by taking a very important soldier off the field. Now if the dog couldn't work, then fine, let him come home.

We really need to get our asses OUT of IRAQ RIGHT NOW and start focusing on socialized medicine and other important things here in America. Invading Iraq was a big waste of money and it could have been used to help people, not kill people, Have any of you guys seen the documentary movie, Sicko by Michael Moore? How the 911 volunteer workers developed health issues (mostly respiratory problems) after saving peoples lives on 911 and how the government rejected them? They had to travel to CUBA, YES! the most evil country being run by an evil dictator named Fidel Castro that the government just had to sign the Wet food dry foot policy, allowing illegals to break the law and allow a stay, to get medical care that they need. The documentary also shows a mother who lost her daughter due to the rejection of idiotic HMO that failed to provide proper care. Check these links out http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0106394.html http://www.cbpp.org/8-26-04health.htm http://www.cbpp.org/8-30-05health.htm Due to CAFA and NAFA... people are losing their jobs and being replaced by workers in other countries who accepts slavery type wages. and to get on topic here... Have any of you guys heard about the conditions in VA hospitals? their in deplorable conditions and if you want even more information read this article http://cbs11tv.com/seenon/VA.Veterans.Affairs.2.500700.html

Before anyone pulls this “You're not patriotic!” “You're anti military!” and “You're Anti American” crap think again! I truly respect our Military and that's why I want them OUT so no more will have to lose their lives for a useless war that serves no purpose for us. No mother/wife/husband/etc should hear the dreadful news on their store steps from a messenger that their love ones died. I'm proud to be an American, just don't like what my government is doing, which I have the right as being a proud American. http://www.bushflash.com/idiot.html

Just so you know, the VA hospitals are the closest thing to socialzied medicine we have in this country. The health care mess that's a whole other can of worms and containing costs has more to do with personal choices most of us make every day than anything else. When less americans need to be on 10 different types of meds because they make or have made years of terrible health and lifestyle choices, the costs of insurance and health care will lower. It's simple really, healthy people don't get sick, and the majority of Americans have been convinced that they aren't responsible for anything, it's all some disease or gene that caused it, and magically there is a drug company that has a pill to sell you to free you from your responsiblity and "cure" you.

Brittany - I am in the military and I completley disagree with you. We havent finished the job we started yet - and until we do, we cant pull out. Right now we need to finish training their military so that they can stand on their own once we do leave. If we dont everyone that has given their life in service during this conflict will have given it in vain. I think you will find most in the military will agree. ~Cate

zdog VA Hospitals are the closest thing to socialized medicine?!? Oh yeah for POOR and LOW quality care, like the link that I provided you ;) Thats socialize medicine for ya :) Gosh the prisoners (the terrorist that want to kill us) at Guantanamo bay Cuba get better care then the solders or people here in the US. The socialize medicine that I'm talking about is for anyone, with or without money. People shouldn't have to clog up ER just because that's the only source to go to to get medical care. I'm sure those who are on 10 different kinds of medications didn't choose to be unhealthy. Not everyone wishes that they had Diabetes, obesity, respiratory/cardio problems. You can be in top physical condition and next day you can drive to work and get a collision with another vehicle that almost cost you your life. In the process your required several expensive surgeries 9if you're lucky, your HMO will accept all of the surgeries, after all they're in charge of your health, not you or the doctor that's treating you, along with future therapies. You cant work, so how are you going to pay the bills? How are you going to pay the monthly premiums of your health insurance, since you're still recovering from your almost fatal car accident? How are you going to support your family, knowing that you cant work until you get better? healthy people don't get sick, huh? We all get sick, it's our bodies way fighting off viruses and bacterias. By the way.. I take 2 Multiple vitamins a day and I watch what I eat and just recently I caught a bug (common cold) that had me up to 100F today. I didn't choose to be sick, it happens. Some disease are caused by genetics, don't kid yourself on that one ;)

Cate, With all due respect... were not going to finish the job, were about to create a WW3 = More lives are going to be gone, thanks to our war mongering president and his puppets. If you can please tell me whats the truth behind this Iraq war anyhow? Wheres the WMD's that our government told us? Why haven't we killed Bin laden, the guy who was responsible for 9-11 attacks? We manage to capture and help kill Saddam but whats the “mission accomplish?” http://www.zipcon.net/stdale/mission_accomplished.jpg We had no business invading Iraq. Do you honestly believe that the people in Iraq are happy? What about that Iraqi boy who lost not his 2 legs but 2 of his arms due to this war? I'm sure he just loves us for what we have done to him. What exactly happen to those billions of dollars of weapons that went missing in Iraq recently? The money that was spent on that could have been spent helping Americans who need medical needs, including better education. How many more of your comrades have to die in order to realize that this war war wrong. By the way... Thank you for being in the military... I'm not flaming ya, just want some hardcore truth answers :) One last thing... Why hasn't the president shipped his daughters off to Iraq yet? Doesn't he want to setup an example of how important this war is?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1586978,00.html If a regular citizen would ever indicated this kind of behavior, He/She would be shipped to the nearest psychiatric assessment center for a mental health evaluation for possible Auditory Hallucinations.
