For mine, my dogs don't eat raw. And all will do it. The male, @ 10 years rarely but once in a blue moon. The girls would dig and eat to China if they could. As soon as I notice it I'll stop it.

My oldest female ate dirt from time to time, out of certain potted plants in the yard. I have then blocked them off since. Just look at ALL the poop your dog is producing over the day. If it does not out black all day, its dirt, especially if the consistency is the same as dirt your dog has access to eat. You'll have to become a poop detective for a few days to see if its just dirt eating or something serious, like blood from the small intestine. If it looks and breaks apart like digested dirt, it most likely is. If you have looked at dog poop long enough in your lifetime, you should know the difference between blood in the poop and dirt poop.

Some animals, even horses, will eat dirt to try and get trace minerals missing from their diet. The only dog I ever had do it was kibble-fed when I got her, and she stopped about a month into raw feeding.
