I'll cry, but I'll watch, can't resist a movie with a main part being played by a dog. The very first movie I ever cried over was "The Biscut Eater", ten times worse than "Old Yeller". I remember hugging my dog and crying my eyes out, don't think I could have been much older than 4.  Lassie never made me cry but I cried buckets over Turner & Hooch.

How about "Where the red fern grows".  Now that's a tear jerker!!  Guess I'll pass on seeing I am Legend at the theater, might have enough courage to rent it when it comes out.........

I read "where the red fern grows" so many times the print wore off in places. Loved that book.

I still swear that before I die, I will own a coon hound.  Maybe not a red bone, but a coon hound, nonetheless.

Of course, my all time favorite movie with a GSD in it is "Shadow of Fear"  It didn't make it to the big screen unfortunately, but it started my very own Zoe!  The movie was shot here in my city and they needed a tracking GSD to play a K9 cop.  We have a local dog agent here and she "tracked" us down at our dog club.  Zoe and I  (I'm an extra too) find the dead body in the woods!  It's a short clip (has a close up of Zoe though) but still pretty cool.  I was so proud of Zoe because she kept tracking the same stretch for about 6 retakes.  She was a real trooper.  Movie wasn't so good though.  Had James Spader in it and some other kinda well know actors.  Just bad writing I think.  Zoe got paid $100 and I got $50.  Not bad for a fun experience!

Rozoan and gone, but NEVER forgotten, Zoe

Another really bad movie is Angel Eyes.  It is based on a true story about a Doberman that is rescued by a girl in an alley.  Her father, played by John Travolta, takes her across the county where the dog miraculously follows them by foot.  It ends like a chinese dinner.  You are satisfied for half an hour, then the hunger sets back in.

I have the austrian tv show "kommissar rex "episodes on dvd and their alot of fun to watch. their pretty cheesy., but the dog is great and in almost all of the scenes fighting crime mysteries!!!Recommended viewing for all gsd lovers. it's amazing how the reruns are still hugely popular in australia, fan clubs and everything.

when i was a kid, we would walk up to the jr. hi on sat to watch movies. they often played animal (disney) movies. "charlie the lonesome cougar", etc. my sisters made me sit by myself in the front row of the auditorium because i always started sobbing and bawling my eyes out. i had to walk home behind them about 20 ft too. i start to cry about 20 min before bambi's mom gets shot ( and my husband and son hunt!), i sob like a baby in old yeller and i can't get thru "red fern". when my son was little and i read to him alot, i read that book (sorta). i was sobbing while he sat in his bed looking at me like i was a freak! "island of the blue dolphin" was another one. when the dog dies, get out the kleenex. my bro set me up for turner and hooch - i thought it was all a comedy! then, bam! i still haven't entirely forgiven him for that! at least K9 with jerry lee and jim belushi ended ok. i want to see "legend", but if the dog dies, i'll wait til its on dvd. my late paternal grandpa had coon dogs. he lived in a log cabin in the backwoods of missouri when my dad was a kid. he'd take off for days sometimes, leaving my dad and uncles alone (my grandma died very young). some of those stories are great, but i will never take a raccoon for a cute "disney" critter! we have a family photo from the late 1800's with my grandpa as a kid, his mom and sisters, dad and uncle holding the family bible in front of their cabin, outhouse in the background with a couple of coon dogs laying at their feet. its a great picture......

I need to write all of these movies down,   they sound fun to watch !!

I do have a vhs  movie of " Where the Red fern Grows"       Somewhere ?

Another Great movie was " RAIN "   It was about a GSD, absolutely Gorgeous.     His family donated him to be a war dog.   They did a fantastic job,  making war like scenes very real, and the things they trained him to do.

I would love to find this movie again,  It was  one of those specials that came on, never to be seen again.
