I try to stay out of places like that, especially when I have baby puppies. I keep bleach solution in the van for my shoes. Might not help, but worth the effort. I used to have to go to the Animal control office for dog licenses in CA once a year. I took a pair of plastic bags for my shoes, left the bags next to the car on my way out for the staff to pick up (they didn't mind). Call me paranoid, but who needs to bring parvo home?

Ummm...I don't deny that I am clueless on a lot of things but I actually have seen the friend paycheck...Andrew Hunte issues the payroll.
And who are you...? One of their workers? Do you know for sure that Hunte isn't part of this? Each store is a franchise so if you or I have the bucks we could put in "our" own Petland. The owners of the one in our area are people who are from Tulsa.
Take your arrogance somewhere else. I am just letting people know what happened at the particular Petland with its sick puppies in our area. By the way, our local newspaper just did an article on them and all the people who have received sick pups from this location.
Because of this store, our city is thinking of banning puppies from being sold by pet stores.
I surely hope so!

Disposable "footies". The same ones used in hospitals, clinics and laboratories everywhere.
Double or triple up (in case of a little "tear" in the ones closest to asphault as you're walking back to your vehicle, etc.) and dispose of them into the trash receptacle or a plastic bag when you are done.
The ounce of prevention is worth far more than the loss of life or the pound of cure.
And if someone asks you, "Why?", you can tell them. Education for the unknowing public.
And yes, ChicagoGirl00, Hunte is a supplier to many. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to learn that he has ownership as well.
I know this is an older thread, but I hope the puppies survived.

Fiona,
She lost three of the litter of nine. The vet suggested the vaccine Neo-Par and it was given along with extra care and these pups pulled through. Three of them never did show any signs of the virus.
Early detection was the key we figure.

Birdy,
Tough to hear. I'm sorry for her losses but glad the others survived.
Yes. Early detection was the key I'm sure. It could have been less fatal had she been warned that there was a problem in the first place.
Heaven forbid. Might prevent the sale of a rawhide or something.

I don't get it...........if she hates Petland, what was she doing there in the first place?

by yellowrose of Texas on 06 February 2008 - 07:02
Well folks , just hit the nerve button her at Yellowrose place....This is the very man I was referring to in the USA and Peta and AR groups who are behind the many bought legislators and he got his foot in Schutz USA with Power play and money......Ban all breeders in the USA from breeding by ban/and registration of kennel or people breeding,,,spay /neuter manditory and owners of no dogs can breed....You pay fines and inpsections that cities send te AC person to your home and they will find something to fine you until you give up breeding or owning an unspayed pet and whallahhhh ,,In 6 years from now all dogs will be sold thru Andrew Hunte's Company owed stores and breeding facilities all over the USA>>>>
And all the american people who think this aids the unwanted pets on the streets, buy into this and fall prey to a united front to make the dog business one central owned conglomerate.......He talks a good talk and he is a billionaire ,,,so money talks and dog poop walks.....get on the ban wagon and dont let these bans go thru....there are many other ways to keep pet problems solved not this way....And this is still America , the home of the free and the brave.....and I will not let government tell me what to eat, buy or sell or how to breed my dogs...nor when or where...I abide by the local laws and those are sufficient for all law abiding citizens...the crooks and non responsible will never be any better than they are ...laws dont cure a person with greed or ignorance....education and fines on the ones doing the abuse and the cruelity to animals...
Petland goes into communities also and buys 6 week old pups from byb and sells them in their stores...without knowing who in the heck they are even buying them from....They dont know if the are in a home that has parvo or not.....they dont care...MONEY is the goal buy low and sell HIGH>.

by shasta on 06 February 2008 - 10:02
Um, how about instead of warning people who go into petstores that sell puppies to be wary of parvo, warn instead people not to SHOP at stores that sell puppies in the first place. no worries of wearing booties in such a place if you're not there to begin with. And the more money we give them, the more puppies they can buy.
I for one took a HUGE hit when a ma/pop pet store I offered classes for was sold, and the new owner started to sell puppies. I walked in one day to see a german shepherd puppy sitting in one of those windows, and never taught a class there again. It was a huge hit to my business, I lost over a thousand a month in classes. But I refuse to STEP FOOT into a place that sells puppies, let alone let my name be associated with one. If she hadn't been there in the first place, she wouldn't have needed the warning that there had been parvo there. And with other stores and internet shopping available, there's just no need to ever step foot into one of these places no matter WHO they are and give them our money.
(also btw, no matter HOW much they say that they get their puppies from good breeders...the store I taught classes out of SWORE they got the pups from reputable breeders, even one of my dearest friends who worked for them swore up and down and yet, hmmmm....what reputable breeders do YOU Know that would sell a puppy to a pet store to sit in a window for who knows how long, being exposed to illness (there was always a sick pup or two behind the scenes) and sold to the first bidder?
Nope, I refuse to set foot inside any place that has pups, let alone give them any money.
by ChicagoGirl00 on 15 February 2008 - 18:02
Actually yes, I do work at Petland, and Andrew Hunte does not sign my paychecks. :)
You are right on one thing at least. Hunte kennel systems does supply puppies to a lot of different petstores, including Petland.
Things are run differently at different franchises, but Corporate does step in if things are not being done correctly.
I am not bringing arrogance, only trying to bring you some much needed knowledge on a subject you obviously know nothing about.

Chicagoland.
I work at Petland in Joplin, MO and everything that is said by others here are true. People here even go as far as to steal others sales. Andrew Hunte IS very much a part of this Petland probably other stores as well.
So what are you??? Management or sales? That will let me know your ass sucking position at this bad place to work.
