Funny you bring that up.  Just this weekend, we were riding our 4 wheelers and took the girls with us to the favorite water hole.  I had just voiced to my hubby that I wonder if they'll get in as it was 42 degrees and I'm sure that mountain water was cold.  Well, no sooner did we shut off the bikes, bam!!, they were in and running around like the normal crazy nuts they are.

My dogs absolutely will go into ANY water, ANY time!  I was shivering watching them.  They run up and down the banks 'til it makes your head spin.

I had the poot scared out of me though when I was trying to get them to come back to us and they were up on the other side of the river on a steep bank...they looked like they were going to try to jump from the bank into the river (which is pretty low now in that spot due to lack of rain).  So, I tried to redirect them back to the spot they had gone up.  Just as I moved, Apache must have thought I was leaving her and she leaped right into the water.  OMG!  I about lost it.  My husband even yelled.  All I could think was, that she would shatter her front legs!  Well, thank God, she was fine...  Also, Savage who is normally the goof ball and will run headfirst into you, was actually the smarter one for once and searched for the spot to come back down.  Scared me to death.

Mine will look for any spot of water that they can play in...sometimes, to my chagrin.

All of mine love the water! doesn't matter if it is a river, lake, ocean, stream, kiddie pool, bathtub, puddle, cooler, neighbor's pool or neighbor's  koi pond! If there is water, my dogs are in it.

UUUMMM, I'm gonna say YES, lol.  Well all except for my Am bred, he'd rather stay on the couch.

My bitch even gets excited to take a bath!  We've resorted to spelling out the word b-a-t-h when talking to my daughter because she flips out and runs upstairs at the sound of the word, but she has even caught on to that.

When it comes to COLD water, some yes, some no, mostly the older, wiser ones choosing to decline when the mercury tanks. Few dogs I have known, however, have Andy's hell-bent-for election enthusiasm for water (above). I have only had one (Onyx) I'd put up against him in dock diving (which they didn't have when he was with us) and perhaps one I could hope to compete against Andy with now, (Bijou) were I to invest the time to work at it, which I probably won't. LOL Its always a treat to go to the pond across the street (top photo, above) with Melli and her dogs. If you can keep a straight face when she winds up and  hurls the toy way out into the water, you really ought to consider rushing to your personal physician for emregency  pharmaceutical anti-depressant therapy!

The first time I ever showed Onyx that pond was on a freezing-arse cold February morning when I stopped by for a couple of minutes (so I thought) on my way to wrok, dressed in a fine business suit and heels, to see if my new keys worked on my just-purchased house doors. As I slid the key into the ancient lock, praying it would open so Onyx and I could have a look-round the warm house, I heard a loud splash from over on the neighbors, property.  Uh oh... no Onyx at my side. He had seen the geese and given chase into the ice cold pond. Oh Boy! Food that fights back! No commands would impress my typically obedient SchH3 dog to dismiss swimming after the head goose, cleverly circling just ahead of him out in the deep part, clearly intent on drowning my boy.  15 min. went by, Onyx was slowing down, head not so high out of the water, clearly chilled and tiring fast. I had to do something!  Off came the business suit. Off came the shoes. Hope no one is home next door (Hi, I'm your new neighbor, sorry if I offended your children...) Hell, I don't even have a towel. The house is vacant!

Fortunately Onyx experienced an uncharacteristic moment of creature wisdom as I started to wade through the ice into the frigid water. He gave up chase and returned into my arms,  icicles and all, (sp?) soaking my underwear, shivering but not yet critically hypo-thermic.  I used the drapes in the house to dry us off and wrap up next to the radiator for a couple of hours while a blisserd moved in, eventually dropping a foot of snow. I never made it to work that day, snowed in but warm and dry in my vacant house, wrapped in curtains till the neighbors came home and leant me some of their kid's duds. The next time Onyx saw that pond he was sporting a Tri-Tronics special with a number 7 module, recieving a special-delivery porch-side refresher course on the finer points of "HIER!"

Our dogs love water!  They jump in the pool and dig and dig and dig.  Others love to jump in and just lie in the water.  We bought more baby pools at the end of the summer for next year because there isn't enough room for all of them at once!

Here's Hasko and Yanka in the pool.

Wanting to change things up, we introduced a sprinkler to the mix.  They didn't love it quite as much as the pool, but it was a big hit with one of our gang, Ryker.

Mine loves to bite the water comming out of the hose.

I took my 6 month old to the beach this past weekend. Boy did he love it running free in the surf. He was a little intimidated by the waves comming in as they were a bit large. He eventually followed a pair of Saint Bernards into deeper water. But he would run along biting the surf as it came in. He came to me like a trooper every time I called him except when it was time to go. He made me go after him but I caught him easily as he wasn't trying that hard to get away.

It has encouraged me to try on the old wet suit and swim with him a few times a week. Good for his hips and good for my heart. Hopefully I'll start that next weekend. And yes the Pacific is cold this time of year.
