raw hamburger, doesnt have much smell,  i use little pieces so the dog doesnt have to stop and chew, just pick it up and go.

i have also used the roll dog food, cut into tiny pieces, same reason as above.  anything frozen or slighty frozen will reduce the amount of smell it gives off.

I use Natural Balance dog food (the sausage-looking rolls), finely cubed. Its healthy, not too strong smelling, dogs love it, and it stay quite a while in the fridge so I cube it up in advance and store it in a tupperware, and grab a handful in a plastic bag whenever I need it.

Frozen Bil-Jac is the bomb, but unfortunately it's not available everywhere.  I buy those bags of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, nuke them in the microwave until they are like jerky,  shred them, bag them, toss them into the freezer.  Right before I head out the door to go tracking I grab a bag!

I also use the Natural Balance food rolls or hot dogs too (nuked works well).

Like the good Molly said  you should go to lots of articles on a short track. You have only taught technique so far and now must transfer this to TRACKING. No bait at all during this phase except at the articles.  Then use whatever bait that makes your dog  happiest.

I loooooved the frozen biljac but I have not been able to find it out here. If someone knows where to get it in SoCal, I'd be more than happy to know about it. I found a place to order it online once, can't find it anymore though.

Not an expert but....I use chicken hearts. really. small, don't stink, east to handle. how about starting off with 2 pieces of food then an article then 1 piece food then an article then a can of sardines. I always end my track with a can of sardines or in sumer baby food in a jar.
