It's old fella's like him who us rescuer's fall head over heels for isn't it?!  You are correct, you will most likely not find another home for the guy but I am sure he will be more than happy in his new home with you where he can spend the remainder of his days with grace and dignity. Thank you for taking this guy in!

I lost my old guy last Christmas. he was 14 years and 10 months old. He was an active dog right up to the day before he died - he would go for two walks around our farmland everyday. He was partially blind and deaf but when he spotted me across the field he would come bounding over to me - looked a bit like a rocking horse but not in the slightest bit shaky on his legs.

There are photos of him on www.mascanigsd.co.uk/#/memories/4533489407

We lost him with a sudden and agressive haemangiosarcoma but he enjoyed life up to the last few hours.

God I love old dogs.

I know of a 17 year old who recently died. Strangely enough, she too was a middle of the road type shepherd, black longcoat.

God I love oldies too :)

Here is my Bruno at his 14th birthday party- he died 2 weeks later. He still had a lot of drive for an old boy. I miss him still.

Peregrine was my oldest... he lived to just over 12, and was in excellent shape and activity level when he suffered a heart attack. His daughter died at 12 also from tortion.  Peri was a son of Rohan's reaction , linebred on Stutgart's Sundance Kid (Bear) both I believe were in the 13 club of the GSDCA... and one of the reasons I picked Peri as a pup. Klytie is about 9-10 now (rescue so we're not sure) and is a whirling dervish.

I had a GSD that lived to be 16.  My ole timer died last year at 14 1/2.  I am so sad for you.  There is nothing like losing a GSD.  I called my 18 month old puppy by my ole timers name last night.  I miss him very much.  Again, I am so sorry for you.  He looked like a really great GSD based on the picture.  We posted a picture of him on RainbowBridge.com.

Best of luck with your grief.

That is such a devastating loss. I'm sorry for you, and I hope that the new puppy will help fill the giant hole.
