Yes, I bred 2 dogs from the same litter that were graded as mildy dysplastic by OFA. One lived in Alaska and was xrayed there, the other in Utah. Both dogs were done the same week, submitted to OFA around the same day and rejected at the same time. The vets said - no way, so both were done again and that time both received OFA goods - numbers AM 4336 and AM 4350. Go figure.
You can send the same dog's xray to OFA as often as you want as long as you pay the fee each time. Their panel of readers will grade it each time and, if it passes, they will issue a number. They admit they make mistakes.

Thank you Blitzen. I've often times wondered if the original OFA reading would be the final say if another xray were done that showed non-dysplastic.
Also, forgive my mispelling previous post "displastic" ugh...fingers moving too fast and not thinking.

This is all good info and I want to thank everyone! It is a female puppy. I may wait until she is 9 months old.

I was told by someone reliable that at 7 months a prelim accuracy for the 24 month mark shoots way up. Very small % of dogs change after this time. If there is a higher incedence of change I think it has to do with crappy positioning or quality of the x-ray. I had my pup done at 7 months and am happy I did. Now I can breath easy for the next year.

I'm told you can get an accurate PennHip rating any time after 5 mos. but I usually wait till about 1 yr.

I just added up all the dogs I prelimed at 6 months old, one or two may have been 7 months, and there were 15 out of 15 that got OFA numbers, goods and excellents. None failed. The 2 dogs I mentioned that didn't pass the first time were not preliminaried.

Well our pups hips/elbows can change drastically as they grow. I purchased a pup at 15 months old that was pre-limbed good at 7 months only to be dysplastic at 16 months of age. My vet said that because they do so much growing during that time, alot can change. I used to think as some of the others, why invest so much time and money and then wait until they are older to xray only to have them fail. Sometimes we just won't always think of everything in a given situation. Just because they get xrayed at a young age and pass, does not mean they certainly pass when they get older.
It seems as though there will always be new things to learn and experience we must gain. Oh well, it's onward we go!!!!
Sincerely,
Debbie
