Another Damn Hot Spot! - Page 2

You're not the only one.  My female had a small hotspot pop up again two weeks ago on the side of her face (about the size of a quarter).  I didn't shave it this time but, got to it before it got all yucky and the antibiotic spray works quickly for her.  Thank God.

I do think it was her food but, not certain.  She had stopped eating her RC at the same time.  I switched her back to Nutro Natural Choice and she's doing great.  If she goes to the other female's dish (RC), she'll spit it out.  For some reason, she just refuses to eat it anymore.  Not sure if this really has anything to do with it or not though.

Just give him a raw food diet, just him that's having
the problem, certain meats at the store are priced reasonable,
you can also feed canned salmon, that has excellent oils & protein.

In the past I've also used Sulfadine(I think thats how you spell it)
It's in a little bottle, it's a yellow  liquid.

With proper grooming, coat length or undercoat of any length should not contribute to hot spots unless.. the dog is wet and can't dry or the skin is bothering him.....

All dogs need EFA supplements regardless of their diet.. no food has enough usuable EFA's so try salmon oil or some sort of Omega 3 , 6 EFA supplements and they need a larger amount than you would think..  

For the actual hotspots, a product by Phoenix Pharmaceuticals called HydroPlus is excellent.. I have been using it for 20 years and peopel will come to me at events and trials if they are having trouble..

That's what I used the last time (ran out this time) and it did work really good.  Stinks but, works.

When I was 12 years old and had my first GSD, 
we never went running off to the vets for everything,
so I saw that stuff in a supermarket, and it worked 
so well, my dog just had a spot under his neck that 
bothering him, sulfadine took it right away, and yes the
stuff smells!

Back then you just opened your front door & let your dog run
around the neighborhood, back then you just went to the 
fire station for a rabies shot, and back then everyone fed 
their dogs, Purina Dog Chow!

Yes, and how come back then it didn't seem as though we had as many issues with them?  Or, maybe we just know more? 

OOOOOOOOOoooh, I HATE that sulfadene - YUCK! And dogs hate it worse....and they lick it all off and then they PUKE that cheap dogfood all over your carpet!

It's definitely the food. I suggest a tried and true dogfood - Canine Caviar....http://www.caninecaviar.com    . It's that simple! Tea tree oil and coconut oil mixed is good to soothe in the meantime. Evening primrose oil gel tabs by mouth might help with the allergies, too.  I still think a well-researched BARF diet is always best - but it gets expensive....I always find myself buying more groceries for the dog than the family when I do the BARF diet!...I'm like a kid in a candy store..."Oooh! I wonder if he'd like LAMB! and VEAL! Did you see how sweet he was today?! He'll love me FOREVER if I get him this ribeye!" It's when you are at the dinner table and a family member is pushing around their mac and cheese and casually look over at the dog in the kitchen wolfing down a Grade A prime piece of beef that you have to ask yourself "WHAT am I thinking?!!" HA! LOL

GSDLVR, Isn't that the truth?  lol...My hubby already thinks the dogs live better than he does and get more of my attention.  If they started to get the ribeyes too, I'd be in deep doodoo.
