We feed him All Life Stages Canidae. He was 19.5 lbs at 8 weeks and we fed 1.5 cups of kibble mixed with a tablespoon of yogurt, 3 times a day. At 12 weeks and about 40 lbs we went to 2 cups of kibble with yogurt, 3 times a day. I intend to keep him at that level for a while. He doesn't seem to be wolfing the food down like he used to. It all gets eaten before the next meal, just not all at once like he used to. He may be telling me it's time to go to 2 feedings a day.
He also gets a cup of cottage cheese in the evening. On Saturday and Sunday he gets an egg and some ham, my wife saves part of her breakfast for him. He gets to try out different things from time to time. Carrots and broccoli are great fun to play with and eventually eat.

What a handsome boy you have!!! A chunker too :-) I would probably go down to feeding him 2 times a day. On the other hand my male weighed 70 pounds at 6 months old, and now he's going thru the gangly stage. Tall and lean looking. Your male does also remind me of a DDR look, just a little bit more than the Czech look. What are your plans with him?

I'm not new to dogs but I am new to dog sport so I'm trying to figure out what to do with him.
He was bought strictly as a pet, but he is such a great little guy that I hate to waste his potential. I live in the north western US, in a low population area. I have to drive 40 miles to get a decent pizza. I'm old and have had quite a bit of trouble with my heart so things that require a lot of exertion from me are out. I'm mobile and agile, just not for very long.
I would love to see him get an Sch title like most of his ancestry, but someone else would have to handle him. I would need some training but I think I could do most of his OB and tracking training.
We have been working on OB since day 1 and intend to get a CGC and ThD at the very least.
I'm a little concerned about his bite strength lately. It may be a phase he's going through or teething or something, but his play bites are very weak, both on my gloved hand and on tugs.
Advice and/or ideas would be appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about his bite right now. He is still very young, and Just in my opinion I think the strength of their bite does change as they grow. Does he still have his baby teeth?

Nice looking boy. I love those bi-colors or very dark black and tans. Where in the north west are you? near which larger city? May be able to suggest some clubs for you.
Teething is possible right now. Maybe softer, shorter play time but stop before he does.

He is eating an astonishng amount. Six cups plus at 4 months seems extreme. 3-4 cups plus the yogurt and cottage cheese (which also seems a bit excessive -- two or three tablespoons a day should be his dairy limit) is about right for his age and weight each day. Five cups without any extras is pretty much the ceiling. For the sake of his joints, you might need to cut back a little. He won't lose final size, but he will grow more slowly and safely.
