Actually if the pup is travelling with someone, that person has to pick it up in the baggage area and clear customs with it. At least this is how it is done in every other major airport. If the dog is flying unaccompanied (not on a passenger ticket) then it has to go to Lufthansa cargo area and you clear customs with the paperwork you pick up at the cargo office and then pick up your pup. This process can take a couple of hours after the flight arrives.
If it was my pup I would have it shipped directly to Toronto via Lufthansa - it takes less time to fly direct and it will be less of a hassle for the pup. I have shipped a few dogs from Germany (Used GK Air every time and recommend them highly as well!) All dogs arrived in perfect condition and all necessary paperwork was with them. I am in CA so I think my flight is even longer! I have shipped 2 pups and 2 adult dogs.

I imported pups to Boston via Lufthansa 9-26-07. Please email me directly for info.

D.H. is trying to give you some good advice, you may want to pay attention. Using GK is the best way to ship dogs from overseas, unless you are personally picking it up and flying it home yourself. We've used them more then once. Very nicely handled from their end. If the pup is being shipped cargo, who the heck cares if you ship it to Toronto of Boston? Ship it to your closest international airpost and save the youngster the extra car time.

p59teitel Hello and happy New Year!
I thank you so much for your very kind help. Finally my puppy arrived safe and sound just as promised. All went well and your post was very helpful.
Puppy appears healthy, one of my concerns has been that he didn't seem to be fed much, he looked very thin. I have him on a raw diet with fresh meat, vegetables, fruit, etc. He looks much better today in regards to weight gain, he is very alert, smart and full of energy. His hind legs are very long, as is the length of his back, unlike the usa boxer.
Our boxer breeder couple in Hungary seems to have a history dating back over a decade as they say on their website. They say the Hungarian body which issues pedigree papers is responsible for the delay, the puppy is now 5.5 months. I do have his passport and he is supposed to have a microchip. The pup arrived in early Nov., should I be having concerns?. If anyone has information to share about Hungarian boxer breeders I would be very interested in hearing from you. Judith.
