Question to you Don...Does it really make any difference how many braces anyone wears if they get/got the job done? For the record, he wears one knee wrap and he wears ankle wraps. Either he did his job safely and correctly or he didn't. From your description it sounds like he did what he was supposed to. Sounds like a Armin did exactly as he does in training and at club trials.
Mike Burke is a great guy. I add the opportunity to meet him at our regional helper seminar a couple of months ago.

It's always easier to blame the helper, than it is to blame yourself, your dog, or your training. Having a bad day? Blame the helper!

Congrats to Steve. I know Steve and he works hard at his training, He trained that dog from a nothing to a National Champion.

Nowhere did I say he did a "bad" job. I just think that when you are limited in your mobility, it is time to hang up the scratch pants during a national event. I didn't say that he couldn't do helper work at any time. I think he challenged the dogs well, but there comes a time in everyone's life where we must know our limitations. I don't think he was bad and I think his helper work was adequate, but sooner or later one has to pass on the torch to the next generation. Yes, it was admirable to step into a vacant spot. He got the job done and everyone came out safe. He tested the dogs and was consistant.

Keith,
You know as well as anyone that most people think Armin does good work, right up until he opens his mouth and tells the world how smart he is and how dumb everyone else is.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

You act as if we know each other...hard to figure out when no one cares to sign a name to a post.

I had the pleasure of taking 6 of my good dogs down to work with Armin Winkler for a weekend in July. I went to him because he has a reputation for being brutally honest and I was making decisions on which dogs to keep and train for top competition and which to sell, as training 6 dogs in three phases of the sport is a lot of work even for someone who has done it as long as I have. I expected to come back with plans to sell at least two of them, whichever two showed me the least potential as competition prospects.
I was very impressed with Armin's work. He did a fabulous job on all of my dogs, in heat and humidity that would have killed most helpers within 20 min. of donning their scratch pants. I should be in such condition! Armin worked each dog the first day, seriously testing their temperaments and abilities, then gave me accurate assessments of each dog's potential on the second day, for which I am truly grateful, and proved an excellent, supportive, polite coach for all handlers in attendance, novice to expert. His own dogs, worked in spectacular fashion by a Dutch helper named Joachim, were all excellent in the work and expertly handled.
I still have all 6 dogs, no plans to cut any of them from the team after seeing what Armin exposed when he tested them. Moreover, the hospitality I, a complete stranger until I stepped onto the (beautiful Schutzhund Village) property, was delightful. I only wish I lived less than 5 or 6 hours away so I could train with Armin on a regular basis.
