ramGSD,that really scares me that you would say that you dont see how feeding once a day  can cause bloat.I got news for you, read a little from say Purdue University or Tufts University and you will learn from the EXPERTS what they have found out. They dont need to run around like fools  AS YOU SAID   to bloat.

A germans shepherd dog put in a back yard wil find something to entertain himself with and it will always be not so good....

you have put these dogs in this situation   Many a german shepherd is in a home , in a large wire kennel, with a cow hoof, and a tv or music playig , in a./c waiting for their masters to come home to be let out.....put your dogs inside in a kennel  so you dont lose them    Animal control will answer the neighbors calls as a nuisance ,,especially if its over and over......you need to only let them out when you are there to attend to them.....someone may take a pot shot at them, if you dont....The age of yours and not being protection trained, arent gonna stop a burglar anyway......Now if you are home, thats a different story...they will turn into that protection mode because you are right there.......they know you are gone and they are being bad kids....

when u live i town, its different than in the country.....still people in the country can shoot a gun right thru your property if you dogs continuously bark and run the fenceling anoying them.....just a fact.....

Neighbors also take immediate offense when they see that they are german shepherds , too......u know that it you have trained that many dogs.....

yellow rose these are sporting dogs the older being a titled bitch. and you obviously don't know her at all if you think anyone's comming in unwelcomed. and as i stated she is generally quiet. it's the pup that's the problem if you can call it that. as i stated i've been on vacation all week and the dogs don't know when i'm home or not and i've heard very little barking other than at the neighbors dog who's the one "running the fence". also animal control can due nothing over a dog that barks during the day as long as it has everything it needs. mine are in 10x10 kennels with shade, H2O, and dog houses.  no i don't like the idea of sticking a dog (particularly a 6 yr old bitch that has spent her whole life outside) in a box with very limited room.

thanks again for stating the obvious YELLOW ROSE. can always count on you for that. but that is hardly the issue here as the neighbor to the right of these people have an american bred shepherd. so i'm sure they are used to the breed.

Well mr Ramgsd : What did u ask all of us if you already hve the answer....I dont know the whole story   you didnt tell it...and I have no idea who in the corn county you are.....I dont know if you train horses or dogs or what your qualifications are...If there are those that know who you are ,then great,,,,I had not a clue your 6 year old is trained    did you say that in the above thread? No

If she has spent her whole life outside,,,,you're in the city now,,,where has she been all these years ,,,,,in the country....you dont have to start getting testy...just talk civily.....  Leave her outside and bring the 5 mo old inside in the a/c in a large wire crate....I know 10 schutzhund people that have all their dogs inside in crates till they get home....so you dont like that ,,,then what did you want us to tell you to do with the pup....sell it?

I think you just want to start an argument...    Bloat is another subject   I dont need to tell you about bloat   after all these  years of training Im sure you know all about it...

If you're going to live in the city, you have to do things a little different than you did elsewhere.....a pup loves a kennel and grows fond of it and will be very comfortable...or you can build him a room of his own......but he sees her and when he barks she probably chimes in, and the two get going and dont want to stop...

And you think your dogs dont know when you leave....what are you,,,,twinkle toes.....they know cars when they crank   they hear the door close and they know when someone drives up , if you take a cab....when you dont make an appearance for several long hours,,,,,of course they know your not there.......how do you leave your house.....? Im sure its not angelic and even then ,,,,dogs have extra perception and would know if an illegal alien was near....

yellow rose you're right you have no idea. you jumped to conclussions about my dogs. what does the fact that she's titled have to do with this subject anyway? again you jumped to conclussions that my dogs weren't protection trained. and you stated at my dogs age they wouldn't stop a burglar. i stated both ages. not sure about your dogs but by the time any of mine reached  6yrs of age they generally will do the job. you are right i put these dogs in the same situation that many a GSD owner or breeder has. a kennel. you jumped to the conclussion that my dogs run loose in the yard. wrong. you state "but he sees her and when he barks she probably chimes in" once again you jump to conclussions. my dogs don't bark at one another only at outside stimuli. at one point i had 5 adults here on the property without a single problem. i'm greatfull for everyone elses responses but to be honest it was more of a stress releaving post than anything. you seem to really be into your dogs being in doors in the A/C. well anyone who trains dogs knows you run the risk of the dog building up fluid in the lungs from taking them in and out of the cold to the warmth for work and back and how it will robs the endurance... and your so into these high energy dogs getting enough exercise during the day how much exercise do you think they would get in a box all day? and no i truly don't care for you yellow rose. perhaps it's just your way of posting or you are just the jerk you seem to be. i've never had you post a decent response to any thread i've started. you always put that little dig in before you end.  EXAMPLE you stated:  "Neighbors also take immediate offense when they see that they are german shepherds , too......u know that if you have trained that many dogs....." so are you questioning what i said? must be because as you said i should know this. so what's the point on this post????? and as for your stupid remark about me leaving, although i live in town i do have a rather large plot of land and no my dogs wouldn't hear the front door shut all the way out back and i don't always need a vehicle when i leave. again you are snide and jump to conclussions.

so as far as i'm concerned when you see a thread i've started you can consider it as stating anyone OTHER THAN yellow rose can post here.

IMO when the neighbors complain about barking dogs, it's time to keep the dogs inside most of the time so they don't disturb the neighbors. This is a battle you are never going to win.

by ramgsd on 03 September 2007 - 04:09

yeah well the funny thing is it's 11:53PM i've been home off and on all day. and home since 5:00PM with all the windows open and the dogs haven't made a sound. but the neighbors with the problem haven't let their little trouble maker out either. i think i'm seeing a patern here. but thanks to all the HELPFUL posts. i'll try the two feedings and a fresh bone during the day for the coming week.
