I agree with Molly's message. I urge the beginners, with the dogs or without the dogs, to learn about the breed and the training on the schutzhund field or training fields for any other sport you would like to participate in as opposed to the internet. The internet is a good tool but mentorship by a breeder, trainer, and a dog person, who knows the breed is very important. You have to see the things in person to learn.

I agree with Jeff and Don "tripodboy" Curlyone. I'd much rather buy the dog I WANT instead of the dog some else thinks I should buy. Then if it turns out I suck at Schutzhund or get kicked out of every club I join at least I'll still have a really cool dog.

Hi I am in the very situation you are discussing. I have 10 years experience with owning showline GSD's , but I have no
experience with workiningline GSD's. I have found a reputable breeder and a litter that should be great. I also have found
a club that seems to be good. I have to agree with fact their is only so much you can learn from books and the internet although
this board has taught me alot about GSD's and schutzhund that I would not have known. I anyone has anymore insight the info
would be great.

I don't think Ajay meant that someone should go out and pick your dog. I think he was giving a valuable piece of advice. In my post I assumed they had already taken the steps Ajay had suggested. He is only telling them to learn the sport first. To find out what type of requirements are needed of you and this puppy before you buy. You aren't going to learn those things on the internet, but in person, like Ajay states.

Oh MAN are you in for some fun. I have known so many people that went from thinking that their showline dogs had a lot of drive, to a good working line pup/dog and were absolutly horrified by the difference.
Good for you.
