Thank you, everyone for your input. I can see that this is a little more complex than I envisioned! The quick release strap sounds like a good idea, and a prong collar for brakes, LOL, I'll need that for sure, and a helmet, probably, my girl's a speed demon....look out for the geeky fat lady being pulled by two crazed GSDs, you'll know me by my scream! jo

I have the walky dog. I like it but it can get scary when she gets some speed up!

I've used a springer before without any issues on level ground. However, my current bike exercise method of choice is to ride my mountain bike on single track in the woods with my dog running next to me wearing an ecollar for control. I prefer this method. No threat of getting hit by a car, among other things. The dog can't pull me over because he's not attached to the bike in any way. If I crash, well... he just looks back at me sprawled on the ground and laughs in his own doggy way.
A helmet is a must if you ride, even if you are "just going slow". Safety first!
