My favorite time of day is when it's cooling off about an hour or so before sunset. I always spend this hour with my dogs outdoors. I have 1/2 acre fenced off the rear deck and 1/2 acre fenced off the back deck. So, I alternate days, dogs and yards. I keep a grooming kit on each deck. I have several dogs in each area. I love to enjoy the cooler air and the sunset so during this hour while enjoying my dogs I do my grooming. I have a rake, greyhound comb, pin brushes, shedding blade, soft and course brushes, and I alternate which dog gets my attentions each evening while the other either romp and play or come to get "in line" . Yes, they all alternate between blowing their coats, but all are shedding year around here. Some have shorter show coats, some plusher coats, but they all need one or more of the grooming tools any day of the year. Even if you don't have your grooming kit out, the Native American Indians would groom their dogs by hand and even hand grooming (dry or wet) can have great results, stimulate the skin and coat and help with circulation and bring a glow to the coat.

This hour spent with them IS bonding time,....and also serves the purpose of their grooming. I actually enjoy being outdoors to "pluck" the ones blowing their coats and watching chucks of blown hair dancing in the breezes. This also seems to settle them down for the night. Sometimes it seems that the dog chosen for our grooming ritual seems to gloat and prance a little more than the rest that night. :)
