Who is that dog, GoldenElk? I thought it was Lasso until I checked the database.

He looks like he could work, all right, but he's got a very straight, upright shoulder which would affect his gait.

Going to see if I can get my favourite picture of an American bred to post. As far as structure and sheer beauty, I have yet to find another dog that I like as much. He looks like he could trot all day, herding sheep. The proportions of his height to length, the layback of his shoulder, the slope of his topline, to my eye all look damn near perfect. My one quibble is his pasterns look too sloped, and possibly weak. The only other dog that can compare (in my eyes, anyway) is another Firestone dog, Altana's Mystique

Covy-Tucker Hill's Manhattan - BIS at Westminister

.

As for German bred dogs, I sure would have liked to have seen Bodo von Lierberg, the 1967 sieger! Is that the dog in your picture, GoldenElk? If not, they look like they're closely related!

Duh! I was pretty darn close, wasn't I? Of course it's Bodo's brother, Bernd vom Lierberg in GoldenElk's picture!

The one posted by GoldenElk was Bernd Lierberg... brother to sieger Bodo.. also from Vello Sieben-faulen...

When I think of old greats Klodo usually comes to my mind.  He kind of signaled a change for the GSD of his time period...Stephanitz saw that his dogs were getting too leggy and he chose Klodo as a way to bring the breed back on track as the 1925 Sieger.

I realy like Hatter too - but I prefer the pic of him on the front of the Willis book ;p

What picture was that, Ceph?

Yeah, Klodo was one nice looking dog!

I KNOW that's Klodo, but the picture I'm asking about is your favorite pic of Hatter!  Never mind, I found the book you were refering to. It's also the same pic of Hatter that Tucker-Covey Hill uses on its website.

Klodo was beautiful, and also had shit temperament. He tended to be pretty nervy and sharp and passed it as well.
