Blacks are only rare in the sense that the color is set by a recessive gene, and so to produce blacks you need either to breed two black dogs or dogs that carry the gene.
I personally like black sables, but if you've seen my dog then you know I'm biased. ;)
I agree that a darker dog does look more intimidating, certainly to the untrained eye. The traditional B&T is so common on the pet market that to see a dog with a dark sable or black coat will catch some folks off guard.

I My white shepherds. I have 32 females that I breed every heat cycle. Only 17 of them are HD borderline or worse. I don't have papers on them, but that doesn't make them any less incredible. They are the best! I
them.
For the slower people out there, this was a joke. As long as a dog is within the standards and can work, I don't care what color he is!

she is listed on the database with no picture. but on www.george-k9.com under dogs for sale you can see her, i'd like to hear what some of you with more knowledge think of her structure. she is the first all black shepherd that i really liked. although the wife doesn't like all blacks! and said no way .

Yellowrose,
I don't know where you obtain your information, but the black male V-Gringo von der Philippsburg was not V-7 at the 1998 German Sieger Show. He placed V-129 out of 134 Vs. He beat 3 other V-rated males and the last two Vs did not out and had to therefore be placed at the end. Sorry, I wish it was different. Would love to see a nice black male placing higher. But it has not happened yet. But let's not give up hope.
Here is my black V-rated girl (SchH3 FH1 KKL1a normal, ED-normal, ZW-72). She is currently in Germany and will be bred to a V-rated black male shortly before coming over. Yes, I am breeding for color as well (among other things)!! If I did not, I could not maintain my sables conformation lines either! My girl here has exceptional structure for a black girl, don't ya think?
