87 year old lady in Detroit, who shot 3 men because they stabbed her 13 years old GSD after breaking in her home.

When we found the neighbors dog out chasing our sheep they were told that was their one "freebie". The dog would not come home a second time. They fully understood the ramifications. I know people that have had to resort to that and have also lost animals they would not or could not keep contained. There are times a dog should be destroyed. News bites like the one above are bad for everybody, both person and animal.
Now that 87 year old should be given a medal.
Let the flaming begin....

All she needs to do is state she is a police officer that was trying to serve a warrant.
Sorry! Couldn't resist.

Go Granny Go!!!
As far as the one shooting her own dog, while I was really tempted to reupholster my backseat in GSD hide after a particularly embarrassing obedience trial, I don't think that this is the way to discipline your dog.

I agree Animules. There was probably more to the situation, the news doesn't always give the whole story.
Did she shoot it dead? Or shoot it and leave it to die?
Just curious because certain states have different laws on euthanizing your own pet. One of my friends was severely attacked by one of her rescue dogs and her husband shot the dog. The neighbors heard the commotion and phoned the police. The animal control officer told her it was (in Massachusetts) perfectly legal to euthanize your dog as long as it has NOT bitten anyone (they'll want to test for rabies.) You also have to euthanize the animal humanely. Sorry if Im being guesome, but he said in so many words, not to shoot the dog over and over. Maybe that was what that woman did??? This was about 10 years ago, so I don't know if the laws have changed or not.
