I did not say RUNNING and chomped from behind...  I said chomped from behind,  the running bunny rabbit was meant to set up the "going away"

gsdlvr2 I NEVER implied she did anything wrong,  a child being bitten from behind is a scarry thing... 4pack I give you kudos,  I would have been stompin on that lady !   Your poor daughter !!

so how I understand 4packs description is that she was NOT looking or facing the dog...  (still not implying she did anything wrong)  and then the dog bit.  That was what I meant by the running bunny.   Nothing more !!

4pack I am truly sorry your daughter had to go through that,  Please know I was not implying she had done anything wrong !!!    I would NEVER.

Some years ago my wife and I were walking a young male dog down the street and as we passed this old house out of nowhere came a very large rottie heading right towards us. I told my wife if he attacks I would try and hold him off and she should run across the street and go in someones house and call the police. The dog came within about a foot of me and stopped, I remember how he just stared me down, I can't believe I didn't piss my pants. After about 20 or 30 seconds he started to walk away and me being younger and maybe a little dumber I said (ya you better walk away) Boom he was right back again and when he walked away this time I said nothing. Point of the story, he did noy attack.

Did I read that right, above....the child went into the yard of the dog, and the dog bit her, and it's the woman's fault that owns the dog for not having a fence?

I say the parents should watch their children better. The dog was trying to do his job. And, this is NOT a confident dog. A real dog might just watch the child and care less, not a real threat. A dog that comes at the child from the rear is a fear biter. It purposely snuck up on this child because a frontal attack was asking for too much confidence. But, it's in it's own yard.

At the risk of opening a can of worms, which I swear is not my intention, there are similarities here between this and the Max dog incident.

1. LEO enters yard, dog is tied up, bites officer, people say officers fault.

2. child enters yard, dog is tied up, bites child, people say dog owners fault.

Now, don't freak out, I'm not trying to start a big argument, I promise. Just talking. So, let's stay civil.

I'm not freaking out, seriously.  Yes, the second I saw the initial post, I knew where it would lead. (Echo?????????????????) (LOL).

4pack----Now if I was a skeptic, I'd have to wonder about that ER trip, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. (LOL)

Renofan2

Years ago when Reno was about 2, we were walking thru my neighborhood with my 3 year old niece.  We went by one house, I heard this horrendous sound.  A Rottie charged thru the screen in the livingroom window and was running full throttle toward us.  I was so afraid that he was coming for my niece.  I pushed her behind me, dropped the leash and stood back.  I was terrified for my dog but I just couldn't put my niece at risk.  The fight that ensued was nasty.  The Rottie's owner came running out and him and his brother pulled the dogs apart - getting several nasty bites in the process.  Reno was a long coat and had a thick, thick undercoat.  She had some punctures, but luckily nothing that some antibiotics didn't fix.  The rotty had some nasty punctures and had a nasty bite thru his mouth.  The owners hands were pretty nasty too.   I am glad it was him that got torn up and not me or my niece.  I am also grateful that Reno came away with minor damage.  If my niece had not been there, it probably would not have gone as well because I would have gotten in the middle of things to protect Reno.  Apparently she could take care of herself and us.

Bitten 3 times by small breeds. Have since learned to be a good aim with my right foot. Been charged with my GSDs in tow. only once a contact....not a pretty scene for the attacker as his scalp was ripped off. Offleash Golden. I told owner to call A/C. Did not want to get stuck with vet bill. He agreed it was his dogs fault.

I have had this happen, twice while doing GSD rescue. No control over either situation. Owner let year old dog out of the back of her car, against my instruction and the dog came at me across a parking lot full out attack and lucky for me only grabbed my arm. I was wearing steel toed boots, and was able to disengage the dog and place my foot in his mouth, when he came back at me to bite again, while yelling to the owner to retrieve her dog. Turned out later, the dog was an absolute sweetheart, just had really bad training.

The other incident was with the same owner, but with a different dog, supposedly trained. A totally different time, different setting, and the dog came charging at me. The weird thing is, this dog always liked me and I had never had a problem with him previously. He was out for blood...mine. I stood perfectly still, turned my head away and yelled Douvet! Luckily as he took my throat, he heard my command and dropped.

As the manager of a local shelter, which sees several aggressive breeds weekly, either by owner surrender or ACO drop off, at least at work I have lots of items I can use, thankfully at work I have never been bitten.
