second rule is when on leash your german becomes more protective toward any one that approaches...so same rule is if you dont know the person and they dont know  doggypooh, than keep your distance , no matter how socialized you think he might be....you have a beast on the end of a leash that has 2000 lbs of crushing power in its jaws.....the best Schut 3 Ipo3, kkl a world champion gsd, comes with a warning,,,watch how you behave around him or her......I think you need to do some reading of article about german shepherds and the training methods and behaviour of them.....or listen to all the great minds on this database    ...wE ARE GLAD YOU CAME HERE TO GET YOUR ANSWERS.......You did the right thing for asking.....now let all these great people who make up cops, trainers, breeder, Moms, dads, teachers, kennel owners, rescue workers, firemen, doctors, nurses, techs, and we will all give you some good tips and if any one gets nasty  , ignore them  ...there are a few intruders who come to be funny and its not a funny situation..Thanks BUN BUN for asking the right people,,,,,,,Im 64 years young so I've seen lots of situations that people should have not been in if someone would have just educated them before it took place,,,,,,

I would stay out of dog parks.  Your dog doesnt need to meet or play with new dogs.

thankyou all so much, i did know, i always thought that to solve this behavoir problem was to expose him to more dogs, but its just a natural characteristic of a GSD that needs to be handle diferently.

thanks again

Quit arguing. That dog does not belong at a dog park period.

I personally would never bring my dog to a dog park either.  Even if your dog is completely sound with other dogs, you never know what vicious dogs might show up there that day.  One of my buddies from back home in LA lost a chunk of his calf muscle to a pit bull that was ripping up his friendly little mutt at the local dog park, run by the most popular dog trainer in the city.  Of course, the owners of the pit were horrified and said she had NEVER bitten any dog before, but that doesn't undo the damage done.

If you want to get a handle on dog-on-dog aggression I would suggest getting plugged in with a local SchH club or other dog sport club, not for training, but to get access to experienced people who know how to deal with this.  You might be able to arrange a private session to get one-on-one help.

I've never thought about about my dog getting sick from a dog park, i've alway kept up with my dogs shots and asumed others did to. the times that my dog was attached as a young dog was at dog parks. I just thought it was the normal place to go with your dog, i'm guessing alot of people think the same as me, None trainers.

Sounds like your dog needs to go to a good trainer, not a dog park.

dog parks are for Golden Retrievers.  If i was playing catch in the park and someone came up, grabbed my ball, and ran off with it, I would chase him down and kick his ace!  Why do we think differently for dogs?  It's just like when a stranger wants to stick their face right in your dogs face and talk like a baby to him.  They often wonder why they are missing the left side of their face.  If someone you didn't know came right up into your face and started talking in a high pitched voice, what would you do?  Again, I would kick his/her ace!

As an owner of a dog, you must be the responsible one.  you must know the surroundings and what may be ahead for your dog.  Not just for your dog's safety, but for other's as well.  Besides, Why would you want to take him to a disease infested  park anyways?
