David....nothing "sad" about it, some how life will go on, thank you for correcting me.
I just wish you had a nicer way of putting things, why are you so condescending?
I do agree about having choices, I don't see anything wrong with it, this is a great site but it's also nice to have alternatives.
Regards,
Andrew

Andrew: What is it with people who make assertions on here, as you do above, but cannot take any miniscule hint of an assertion to themselves??? as you cannot above!
Give me GSD anytime over people!!!!!!!!!!

I had a long discussion about exactly this topic when I initially programmed the læinebreeding feature.
The established way (note that there is no "right" or "wrong" way) was to stop at the first linebred ascentant. i.e. 3 - 3 linebred vom dog, and not show 4 - 4 father of linebred dog.
Which is fine as long as you really know your gsd pedigrees in and out. I didn't , and I wanted to know each dog my dog was linebred to, I didn't want to check each dog to see what was behind them.
Take for instance, a dog that is linebred to "Dam vom unknown" 3 - 4,. Some dam that I know nothing about. But if her father is f.i. Quanto v.d. Wienerau, then I clearly want to see that. since she is linebred to Quanto 4 - 5, even though its through "dam vom unknown" and she is already listed.
You could hide a very strong linebreeding (for instance, 4,5,4,4 -5-5,4) to the same dog, just by being linebred 2 -3 or 3-3 to two seperate dogs. (if they come from that same dog), so you wouldnt see that strong relation to that one dog, since the two dogs are already listed.
Well, as I said, I had a long discussion about how to present it way back, and I decided to do it my way since I felt it helped me more then the old way.
ps. I don't worry too much about other websites. I have run schafer.is and then pedigreedatabase.com free for the world to register and advertise since 2001. It will continue to be free while I run it. I've seen "databases" come and go, they all seem to end up to require you to pay to keep using them. I haven't and never will. (I might in the future do some extra super duper stuff that I will require payment for, but not the basic, registry, pedigrees, pictures, classified stuff that is already running,.)
Plus, Im a database expert with interest in breeding,. This website will run as fast as it is now, with 50.000.000 pedigrees or images.
(each search now goes through 1 million pedigrees :-) , and the search is fast, huh ;)

Do right and fear no one,
Oli did have the choice of deleting the threads as soon as they appeared if he so wished. It's his site and posters have to play by his rules. However, he didn't as he explained above. I did notice though he appeared on the original thread quite quickly. I think I've seen at least one post disappear from here that had dogs for sale, yet there are always kennels with updates etc, advertising the same. It's always going to be a fine line but when there are kennels advertising their own websites you can't blame people for doing the same, even if morally people that do it struggle with it they still see it being OK and would be daft to not use this excellent facility.
After all, despite all the back biting that is here from time to time, surely everybody has the same aim, to buy, sell and improve in some way, the GSD breed.
As for buying Ad space here then Oli stopped using Adbrite for that very purpose after the latest site update. You can only site target or hope for the best via Google Adwords now.
I don't disagree with what you are saying only giving an alternative view from how I see it. People don't like change and also feel a liegance towards Oli for his hard work. That's commendable but surely not necessary as this site will always offer an important service. The other site might just offer something else and work great alongside this site. Not visiting it only serves to narrow your options down, but then it is your choice.

Oli, this website is unequalled, and I have confidence it will remain so. On the subject of line-breeding, of course there is no right or wrong way, however the SV include line-breeding on pedigrees which ends at the first dog, not including its parents unless of course there are extra lines to one or both of the parents.
I lean towards your more thorough expression of line-breeding, as you say it can help on occasions.
I would also add that I am very impressed with your improvements on this site; the future looks very bright for this database.by Andrew on 29 May 2007 - 12:05
David, look who's calling the kettle black....laughable really.
"Give me GSD anytime over people!!!!!!!!!! "
Yes, some do have issues relating to people, usually the ones who take their toys and run home.
Working Dogs, well said.
Oli, you do a GREAT job and I'm happy to see that you allow other opinions even when it is in direct conflict with what you work so hard on.
Regards,
Andrew
