This is where my family fits in to this whole mess. My family has never had health insurance, we do however have major medical in case of crisis. The only time I've ever used my major medical is for my horse accident back in 2000 that left me cripple from the neck down (2 months) and hospitalized for 9 months total.
We pay cash for everything and the prices are extremely cheaper than what the insurance company's pay. We figured all this out when my sister and brother got married to people who had health insurance. For example: I pay 112.00 for my yearly PAP, TBC and MAM - my brothers wife has a co-pay at 35% on a total bill of 640.00. That's 256.00 she pays for the exact same service only with insurance. I think it was Blue Cross - Blue Shield - not positive on the insurance carrier, it's been along time. That is highway robbery. Now, we didn't go to the same doctor (I have a Chinese DR who only takes cash payers) - but still, it's gives you an idea of what we're up against here.
In my opinion, I think this HealthCare is a way for the government to regulate those of us who are healthy and those that have the means to pay their own way. The government is looking for money - they are broke - making it a crime for people who pay their own way for healthcare now - will have to pay the IRS and sign up for some mickey mouse healthcare. It's BS. I love my DR.
I also think, if we did away with health insurance (NOT major medical) completely, the prices would prolly be around what I mentioned above that I pay. I go to the DR once a year and every 10 yrs I get virus, disease, plazma work done and a Tetanus shot. That's it. I haven't been on RX since 2000 and even then when they released me - I threw them all away. (I never took them when they gave them to me in the hospital - sshhhh don't tell anyone) Although they prolly found them in the planter eventually LOL maybe not. LMAO
I go to the dentist once a year - I pay 68.00 for a teeth cleaning and 84.00 each xray(2). My eyes are better than 20/20 (lol) so I don't ever go to the eye DR.
I would like to know though the ratio between people like my family and those going to the DR all the time and not paying squat - something tells me it has to do with people jumping our borders more than anything. Guess we'll never know now.
I hope my Chinese DR's don't close down over this ObamaCare BS - that's what I'm worried about. My son (they delivered my son) and I are as fit as a fiddle because of those two guys. I thank the Lord for that.

Keith,
I was not making an argument against health care. I am 100% for Obamacare, although I agree it could use some improving.
I am one of the 50 million needing and wanting affordable health care. Even if, as some claim, it would not be the best of care, I believe lesser care is far better than none. I say this as I sit here with a severely sprained ankle and not being able to afford doctor's care. There are so many that I know, like me, that do not make the money to pay for insurance and do not make the money to pay for even the most meager of doctor's care.
People like me just simply don't go to the doctor's unless it is a critical emergency such as excess bleeding, chest pain, shortness of breath... you hope that the ankle that you cannot walk on is badly sprained and not broken, you just take your chances. It used to be that if you were uninsured and went to the hospital, they used to take your $5-$10 a month payment, every month for the rest of your life, and deal with it. Now that is no longer the case. Today, they sue you and the court determines how much you will pay until the debt is satisfied, whether you think you can afford it or not. Just because you are not financially able to pay, i.e. the working poor, you are not relieved of your debts.
The points I was trying to make was that there are so many against Obamacare on here, especially those in the health care system, fearful of losing their jobs and other job loss. There is no way their jobs can be jeopardized. There is no way that Obamacare can do nothing but actually create a huge shortage of jobs, especially in the health industry. Another, hidden bonus for Obamacare will be that the jobs it is creating are, in my humble opinion (at least compared to my paycheck), very nice paying jobs. Just think of the impact that will make on a weak economy, not to mention look at all those dollars that will be flowing into the tax coffer!

How much credibility does the Alliance defending freedom really have. You know it is no more than a Extreme right wing political group dressed in christian cloths. This has been a right wing plot since George H. Bush, which he rejected because he did not feel good about using his faith and exploit it for political gain. But behold the era of GW Bush, old Carl and the boys convienced him if he could get the church behind him and "vote" he would tap into a big pool of people who used to just pray for whoever was in office. All of a sudden there is a division between even in the church, that is tearing this nation to pieces. All this talk is not about helping the poor, or sick it is about political power.
Now we are labeled as the evil liberals, and bless God, defenders of freedom, patriots, etc.
What happened to normal ?
Good post Falkosmom, I hope your ankle gets better.

Indeed it can but we can't improve on something that doesn't exist. This is a start. We could already have provided a lot of health care with the money spent fighting doing so.

There is not one doc that I know who is in favor of this. Some of the docs are already planning on leaving to do something else. The only benefactors of this are Insurance companies and the govt who will receive the taxes from those who don't get insurance.
I still have not seen premium rates. Baby Eagle have a link for that?

On the other hand, most without insurance would never find this out as they would not seek medical care in the first place.
