Shelley Strohl

by Shelley Strohl on 09 October 2007 - 16:10

MY favorite Thunderbirds fly F-16's, but my favorite aircraft has to be the A-10 "Warthog" Tank Killer. Ugliest bird in the sky: just a pair of huge engines strapped on an ugly airframe to deliver an extraordinary amount and variety of deadly ordnance with precision, no other reason to exist than to kill people.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder: http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=490401151&channel=492828712

Below: My "dream car", PERFECT for that dreary morning commute. Reliable, simple to park, no worries about weather, difficult to burglarize or steal, (comes complete with chauffer and top notch security staff)  no need to garage. Somewhat costly to operate and maintain.

Ok, here it is.....

Female, 38, live in here in Northern VA, married to hubby no.# 2, have 4 kids, 3 daughters ages 20, 16 & 4, and a son who just turned 3. Have 3 dogs.....Hunter age 10 my golden, Brody age 2 my GSD, and Kyia almost 5 months and also a GSD and yesterday I had to put down my 14 yr.old GSD . She was the reason I've stuck with GSD's.  I've always had dogs growing up, no purebreeds just mutts, but they all were my babies to say the least. So when I moved out on my own, I purchased my first Golden, and Hillary was a awesome girl!! Everyone loved her, people knew her name before mine! She never knew a stranger, and always greeted people smiling and waggin her tail!!  Then I got Heidi, my first GSD, and wow!!! She was the coolest dog and made me want more. Then along came Hannah, my laid back Golden. She was the laziest!! lol, but such a baby!! And then came Hunter, my first male dog ever!! And what a joy he is!! He is the reason I went with a male shepherd, Brody.....Bro is my absolute boy!! Follows me EVERYWHERE!!! I can't get up a pee with out him right there!! lol I love that dog!!! And then there is baby Kyia, she was born on my b-day so what can I say it was meant to be!!!

I'm a deputy clerk for the circuit court, and I love just hanging around w/ my dogs and family and taking pics. I plan on doing Schutzhund & showing w/ Kyia but finding the time has been the problem lately (with working f/t, & having 4 kids, a hubby and 3 dogs, my time is very limited!! lol) And yes I am "Newbie" but I'm here to stay and I love coming up on here and reading everything. I've cried and laughed over some of these boards. What a great bunch of people.

Ok all,  this ought to be good!

PowerHaus=

I am Vickie, I live in Oklahoma about 15 minutes east of Tulsa.  I will be 37 this month and am newly single!  I have 2 boys who live with their father.  They are 14 and 16.  I have been doing Schutzhund for almost 8 years.  I was a Veterinary Technician for 9 years.  Started my own pet sitting business so that I could dedicate more time to my kids and dogs.  Got burned out on that and the kids stopped playing sports so I went to work for my brother who owns a car dealership.  The pay sucks but the hours are great!  I take 2 dogs with me to work every day and that is soooo nice!  I also handle and train a couple of dogs for a person who wants SchH dogs and competitive dogs but isn't able to do the sport them self, this is a first for me and I LOVE IT!  I hope I can turn it into a career!

I aspire to be a National Level Handler!  I showed in my first National Championship in Canada this year and LOVED it!!!  We didn't do too good but that is ok, I liked the companionship of the other competitors just as much as anything!  I am working hard to take my dog to the DVG Nationals in Orlando in 2008!

Other things I enjoy are, fishing, camping and I am becoming a football FANatic!  I am really enjoying football, something I thought only guys REALLY got into!  I don't have a favorite team though!  I also enjoy traveling and hope to do more of it now that I have a new found freedom!  I am thinking of going to some seminars.  I am working on the purchase of 3 acres with a pond and am pretty excited about that!

I have a couple of dogs.....LOL!  I actually have 7 but 3 of those are for sale so that will take me down a few!  Darko di Ca Bergomi is my heart and soul!  He is silly but a good boy!  He has a SchH3 and FH that Joanne Flemming trained him too and Lisa Little showed him for!  He is an awesome boy!  I also have a Olix Karthago X Wumm Kaisersaule granddaughter and a Crock Erlenbusch granddaughter who is a PPD!  She is also one of my all time favorites!

That is about it in a nutshell!

Shelly, you go girl !  I love the A-10 too!  Supported it in the USAF in England at RAF Bentwaters - babysat (I say lovingly) 8 squadrons of pilots for threat intelligence to the A-10.  They are truly the ugliest mickey mouse looking plane but boy can they terrain mask !   Got the crap scared out of me one day when an F-16 couldn't drop its landing gear and came in on a belly landing, stopping only 30 yards from where I was parked watching the whole thing unfold in awe.

Kellbeme - sorry about your loss yesterday, 14 years was a good life with a loving mom....MHAFY

Vickie - good luck on the 3 acres w/ pond - and your new found freedom, may you enjoy it immensly!

Ok, so my bio wasn't that good!  Silly me!  I am having a great time doing what I love (schutzhund) with out the conflict of a dog hating spouse!

I also have a new puppy to raise!  Got my puppy from Lorna of Clews K-9 and she is an awesome puppy!  Thank you Lorna for the great kiddo!

My name is Sandi and I am 59, sliding quickly toward 60, and have no idea how it happened.  We've lived in North Carolina for 2 years, but have lived all over the country.  I am unofficially retired from new product development in the medicial field.  I got tired of looking for a new job every time we moved.  My husband is an engineer, mechanical not choo-choo, and it made more sense for me to stay home with the dogs and manage the "farm" after the last move.

We've been married almost ten years after both being married 26 years previously to the wrong people.  I swore I'd never do it again, but he wore me down.  He came with two teenagers and an old pound kitty named Bubba.  I had a Bichon Frise and no kids.  The kids are out of college and married and out of state.  The Bichon died, Bubba went to live with our daughter, and we ended up with two GSDs on 15 acres.  Again, I have no idea how it happened.

We have two 4 year-olds - Xena, purchased as a puppy in NJ, a granddaughter of Dallas and the smartest dog I have ever known, also the most high-energy and a real alpha bitch.  Xanto, a son of Larus von Batu, acquired at 2 1/2 sick as a dog, and finally diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease.   He is currently doing very well, and is the sweetest, most laid back boy around, except when he sees a cat (see above), squirrel, or my husband with a tug toy.

I check the site frequently.  There is always more to learn.  I enjoy the humor, not the pontificating.

I'm so happy this turned back around! For a minute I thought it was getting ugly and glad it came back around.  This was such a nice, fun thread and it would be a shame to turn it into a bashing contest.

Kellbeme, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, I think everybody on this board has been there and it's not a fun place to be.  14 years is wonderful to look back on though and I'm sure there are memories you'll carry with you forever.  You have my sympathy.

I am a man in my mid 50's going on 16. I live with my 3 daughters ages 2 mos, 8yrs and 19yrs and a raven haired fox  16yrs my junior, who hangs around with me.  I am blessed to have two older daughters who are married in their 30's. One lives in the Orient, and the other lives in Australia. The Lord blessed me with 2 son in laws who are good men and both wealthy businessmen. I have a 25yr old son who is all I could ask for in a man.  His older sisters both try and get him to come to their lands and work in their business, but he refuses to leave the Rockies where he runs security for a large Resort.  I have 6 gorgeous grandbabies who I worship.

Last month I had the pleasure of working with the Australian National Boxing Team. In the past I have worked with Australian Pro World Champions, Jeff Fenech and Jeff Harding.  I am very tight with one of the top Boxing trainers in the world, who also runs probably the largest and best facility in the nation. I was called in to work with Tommy Morrison for his fight with the durable Joe Hipp. We used to work with lots of pros, but since the theories of altitude training have changed, not so many come to my friend's facility at 7300ft.  The modern belief is that it is best to train low and live and sleep high. Which is opposite from back in the day. Now the altitude tents are popular to practice this belief.

I have a whole lot of dogs, cats, and everything else one can imagine. I have for many years. I have had great GSD's, pathetic GSD's and all inbetween. I love them all.

Bonsai Kitty was a computer hoax by perpetrated by students from MIT.  What was funny was the number of people who actually believed it was real, complained and even signed petitions calling for the students to stop torturing cats!!!!!

Sparrow, me too....this is great getting to know all the characters (and I do mean characters!) on this board.

Hello to all of you, thank you for sharing and hope we have many years to enjoy each others personalities and common love of the German Shepherd dog for all of its magnificent attributes.  I too have learned so very much here and thank everyone who puts up with me and imparts wisdom to this thirsty mind.

Abhay, glad you joined in, was hoping you would....
