Can we all take a step back and breath...

I read message boards all the time but I usually do not respond.  I just responded with a very long message but it did not go through - so if it does I may be repeating myself.  I could not let this one go unanswered.

I have known Taunya and Josef for years.  I have bought many dogs from them.  The person who claimed that this is their fault is just wrong.  As we all know, you can breed 2 perfect dogs and breed a disgusting litter.  You can have 2 questionable dogs and breed a great litter.  We can not control genetics in people and we can not control them in dogs.  I have never known Josef and Taunya to do a "bad" breeding.  If you purchase a dog from them and there is a problem they always stand behind it.  Lets look at the reality of the situation, Grim is 0/0 he has produced some excellent dogs and like any mating sometimes something goes wrong.  Ben was 0/2 and he produced Grim that was 0/0.

Now lets look at the real situation here.  I know Malinda, not real well, but I do know her.  Lets think about this.  If you sell a puppy to a client and the client has a problem with the puppy and you offer to go and personally pick the puppy up, refund the persons money, offer the puppy medical care and the client still refuses what are you suppose to do?  At that point I would have to say there is something wrong with the client.  If as a breeder I have made these offers and the person refuses and the continue to complain about the dog then that is there problem not mine.  Where are all the vet reports why haven't we seen them?  If I am going to complain about someone I am going to have reports to back it up and probably a second opnion.  If I am going to return a dog, I am going to have vet reports staing exactly what is wrong with the dog and again, I would have a second opnion.

I guess the question we need to be asking is the following...TO THE PERSON THAT OWNS THE DOG WHAT CAN BE DONE TO MAKE YOU HAPPY?  Our job as breeders, gsd owners is to assist people on these forums not bash them.

So, here is my offer to the lady that owns the puppy...I will come and pick the puppy up at my own expense, I will refund your money that you paid for the puppy and I will bring it to our home, I will offer it all the medical care I can - Malinda should be okay with this because I know her and she knows how I treat my dogs.  I can supply the owner of this dog references if she would like.   Will this make the owner happy?  It really should not matter to her because she stated she was going to put the dog down.

To the owner of the dog If you do not accept this offer please tell all the people on this forum what you would like to have happen to make this situation right for you?  We will do everything in our power to assist you in an outcome that is acceptable as long as it is reasonable.  If there is nothing that can be done to make you happy then please stop wasting this forum's time and please stop bashing a breeder who has tried to make the situation right.

I want you all to take a step back and think about how the breeder feels.  I understand the lady with the puppy is very upset however, many on this forum has bashed her for no reason.  That is not our job as GSD owners and breeders it is our responsibility to assist other breeders, owners and future gsd owners.

I hope this does not post twice as I am posting again. ... :)

The point to this story is this:

I bred the dogs which worked and provided me with the necessary drive and nerve I wanted in Police Service Dogs and to retain one from this bloodline.  I did not breed for pets.

1) Henry had never been bred before so we were unsure what he was going to throw, so we kept our prices on this litter low.  He is a great dog and imported by Gene England for friends of mine.  We aquired him when they got a little under the weather in age and health and he was a little too much for them to compete anymore.  He then was trained for narcotics and a dear friend of mine who is a LEO K9 handler needed a new dog due to being in an accident with his other dog and she had to retire.  Then he was called to Iraq and Henry was brought back here.
2) Caliber was bought (along with her sister, Caliente) from Taunya and Josef because I needed dogs with drive.  I loved Galant and Fela and felt they would make great pups.  I sold Caliente to a SAR handler in California who was delighted with her and has continued to work with her there.
3) I bred the litter.  At no time have I ever bred to get big litters, if anything it is the opposite.  Most of our litters are from 3 - 6 pups because of limited matings.  We like it that way so we can better see who is who in the litter.
4) This litter was huge.  More than we needed for our LEO clients and we retained some to keep Henry's lines.  So, we offered them to the general public at pet prices and a guarantee.  IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE PUP, THEN SEND IT BACK AND WE'LL REFUND YOUR MONEY, NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
5) This lady was not happy at day 2 and we offered then.  She had the option but turned it down.
6) This went on for several ocassions.  We helped find plenty of information on the net for each and every malady she came up with.  I spent untold hours on the net and talking to other breeders about everything ..  this was not good enough
7) we have not repeated this breeding even with the other pups (including the ones we retained!) being just fine so far.  We did not want to take the chance.

When she continues to refuse the original agreement and want more there is nothing more I can do.  What can be expected?  I want to see this pup and go over each and every part of him.

We never ever refused to take this dog back at anytime.

Send the dog back and get a refund.  Period.

First of all let me say that on the first day we got the puppy I called Melinda and told her something was not right, she immediately told my husband and myself we had to put the puppy down.  This was on speaker phone, and my husband was appalled.  She told us to send paperwork of putting the dog down, and then and only then could we move forward. Since the puppy had not even been to a vet we were horrified.  We went to the vet and called Melinda again, this time she said send the pup ,if we wanted, at our expense, and she would put it down.  Maybe  this was my bad for not paying the shipping and sending this pup right back, but I didn't know that breeders acted in this manner.  We felt we had no choice but to raise this pup still not knowing the full extent of his problems.  To make this clear ,Melinda never offered to come and get the pup, nor pay for shipping.  She made it clear to us, that because of us, this pup would die.  This forum was the only place she every made any offers, but just this morning sent me an email that I was to send the puppy back at my expense.  These games are just not for me, we love dogs, they are family to us, and therefore their lives have meaning.

As to your wonderful offer, this is what we were looking for!   We wanted this from the beginning, but were told the dog would be killed because of us, we could not get passed it.  If you truly mean what you offer, I have no problem.  You have the experience you say and could maybe provide more insight than we have available. We both work for a police dept and we are really good people.  We have simply been frustrated and filled with guilt by what this breeder has been telling us, is our fault.  I would love to talk more.  Thank you so much for reading, and for actually trying to make a solution, I know you are not the breeder, but truly I appreciate this more than you know.   Please email me at cobet12000@yahoo.com

Dealing with the public!

I have over 40 years of customer service experience, here is the bottom line:

90% of the public are nice and resonable!

5% of the public need to be stroked a litlle bit and they come around.

The last 5% of the people should be taken out back and shot. Because nobody is ever going to satisfy them no matter what you do or offer. Right now I'm going with the last 5% on the lady that bought this puppy. After more than 100 posts what the hell does she want????

She won't send the dog back.

She won't take a refund?

She won't even state what she wants. All she does is complain. AMEN

From what I read from her lastest email (the dog owner) she was very appreciative to Wildforwolves offer and wanna to hear more...  Not sure where you think she is not willing to work with people.....

From what I read above Malinda has not offer to pick up the dog... She has stated a few times to send him back...

I agree with Wildforwolves as to people need to stop being so negative and just come to resolutions to make all happy...  And see what can be done for the little puppy....

at no time did I say this puppy would be destroyed.  geez.

So, now with a buyer you can actually put the dog on a plane? hummm... interesting.

Oh well..  we'll see what happens now.

If you read correctly, she said she would pick up the dog.    You should be ashamed, that someone else would want to take responsiblity for something you clearly created from your communcation and breeding.

Since the dog has bad hips,  I wonder if it would be painful for him to have to be in a crate for 6 hours or more....   thoughts?
