But she is in excellent shape, and Shelley and I agreed she could handle one more litter, because SHELLEY needed that income.
And there you have it. So much for you high and might show dog breeders and you "only breed to better the breed" and "we don't make money on these puppies" "our $1500 puppies are better than a $150 *gasp* BYB who only breeds for money" and ad nauseum with the self righteous breeder crap.
Hang in there, 9 year old momma, hang in there.

$18 dollars a day for a dog seems outrageous to me, when I board a horse, who gets straw, hay, grain and supplements and turnout for 12 dollars a day in Canada where hay is $4.75 a bale.
Probably depends of what area of the country.
Here in Podunk, NE the local vets charge $10-12 a day.
I boarded a horse for $100 a month, full care. That was about 4 years ago though.
I am hoping SS and her dogs make it safely to CA, but don't expect me to not voice my opinion on a public board
of what I see as blatant hypocrisy in some.

How appropriate to be in Tennessee where you can "Always rely on the kindness of strangers.."
Shelley, you are a wily old fox, but you are still not thinking of your dogs. And before any new Shelley acolytes jump on this bandwagon, unlike most of you, those of us who are asking for a reality check have actually KNOWN Blanche,-I mean Shelley-- personally for 20 years or so. Carrying those dogs around especially the pregnant one when you have no safe home for them is selfish and abusive. I have always found you bright, funny, clever and resourceful, and I have often been able to overlook some of your antics because of this, but this kind of abuse has to stop. Those dogs deserve better, and they did not ask for this trip. I hope the female survives and doesn't suffer too much from lack of proper care, but I wish you'd rethink your choices that affect creatures other than yourself. Successive choices of " abusive" mates is your call. Being drug around the country in a box, is not the dogs' choice, its yours, and they deserve better.
You Pal Julia

"$18" a day seems outrageous.. "you should check out different parts of the country, Here in metropolitan Northern CA rates in a GOOD kennel run $22 -$37 per night for a large dog. More in private cottage facilities. Dont judge everything by your limited experience.

May be, but $20/day is not unusual here in Central PA.
And check out this from Golden Lake in Mechanicsburg, PA:
"RESERVATION CANCELLATION FEES: Pet Owners are asked to provide a Security Deposit.... If less than a 48 hour notice
is given for a cancellation or a no show of the reservation, a $50 charge is made. During peak season (5/15-9/15), a charge
of 50% of the scheduled stay billing (i.e. 8 days @ $30/day x .5 = $120) will be charged with less than a 48 hour notice."
Now if I ran a boarding kennel, I'd bet that I'd agree with this, thinking of all the times people made reservations and then simply never showed, and runs I could've used sat empty, so that's probably why this place instituted this rule.

While Julia and I occasionally do not see eye to eye, she is calling it as she sees it. Call it "tough love"--if you will. The last time I saw Shelley in California was shared over a restaurant lunch table with Julia--shortly before Shelley's departure for an exciting job offer back East.

Show dog breeders? Molly's known for breeding show dogs? GSDSRULE, what, you just bash show dog breeders just because? So you take someone who is known for her working dogs, but heaven forbid you bash a working dog breeder, so you just decide to call her a show dog breeder because that's who you like to bash? Working dog breeders don't ever breed to make money? Do you actually believe that??? Oy, are you naive!!!
