Please stop talking about stuff that you know nothing about. Elbows were not checked at the time that Ben was breeding. If you have an xray- please send it. We would all love to know where you got this crazy idea.

Galant has A hips in Czech Republic which is where he was xrayed.

Slovakia made a mistake and registered him with B hips but it is now corrected and read A on all his progeny.

$14K was a bit nuts to me too. I was assuming it was typo and she meant $1,400. Without surgery $14,000 is an insane amount and for that amount, a vet would hopefully be able to put Humpty back together again. I'm trying to be objective for the pups sake. I care not so much about the breeder breeding these lines, that's her call. The buyer bought the pup knowing the breeding. If the rest of the litter turned out nice, great! Genetics are a crap shoot. Too much gets lost in translation and us readers can't possibly read all of the facts here. It's up to the breeder and buyer to come to some sort of agreement. I'm on nobodies side but the puppies. I know you have a contract, I used one to for my litter last year. All I can say is if it was a dog from my breeding, I would give the amount for the pup back to the buyer, let her keep the dog if she wants to keep him, if not take him back, place him or put him down. Whatever is best for the dog. When my pups ended up unregistered through no fault of mine, I coughed up $500 per buyer. That wasn't covered in my contract, but it was the right thing to do. If you are going to be a breeder sometimes you have to bite the cost and do whats right. I know there is a way for the buyer to prove to you the pups condition without sending him back. Many ideas have already been shared.

No one in a situation like this is going to come out "happy", least of all the pup. Hopefully an agreement can be settled on, to appease both parties and take into consideration the pups comfort.

Elbows were x-rayed when there were obivious problem. You are correct, they were not certified back then.

Severe hip dysplasia on one side... I have encountered this before on a pup (dislodged and malformed femoral head and not anymore socketed to the pelvis cup which is degenerated )... and yes and if linebred on somebody who is known to have slight dysplasia will prove its genetic... the other side of the case is... the pup being the largest of its siblings and too many on a litter... lacked bone mineralization (due too poor mothers milk) I even saw the mother segragating the pups into groups so she can all feed them... The problem is the morous pup due to his size developed a faster appetite and cannot control himself ...even sleeps on top of the litters pan to take all the food... I had to separate this morous  pup...did not cull it to observe how HD develops and waht environmental factors contribute other than genetic...  Since then I never let the bitch have more than 4 pups...and I never bred to the same stud.

We are very lucky to have 2 dogs already qualified for the WUSV and 1 more very promising dog. Basco and Mike Diehl are representing America. We co own Basco and Ozzy Barnero from Slovakia just qualified last weekend after winning the national championship. He will compete at the WUSV. We are hoping Erri will also qualify to represent Czech republic.

Eurosport is so excited with the prospect of having 3 dogs from 3 different countries on the World team. Josef is the Team Captain for the USA team so this is going to be a fun trial.

Don - I think you are missing the point here.  First the breeder is breeding dogs that should not be bred.  And she is posting on her website that she plans to breed them again... at this point who cares about the money, it's the litters that I care about...  This poor puppy having to deal with pain everyday is what I care about...

Taunya,

This is why most people stay off of these boards...you are so well respected and you know your stuff - however, when you speak your opinion immediately people chime in and start spouting things they know NOTHING about.  I am proud of the dogs that your produce, I am proud of the dogs you compete with and I am sorry that this forum has people on it that have nothing better to do then complain about everyone.

Good point!

I still don't like people that spout out BS and lies.

Thanks. I agree with you. Those of us who are out working our dogs dont have time to constantly write on the boards. By the time we come in at night, we are filthy, stink and exhausted!!! Who wants to write on the computer? I just want to get clean and relax a while.

Best

One last thought.

We all feel bad for the puppy and I am sure Malinda feels horrible. She is a good person. But, she is not the dog GOD who says which hips will be good and which wont. The only thing we can do as breeders if this happens to us is to offer a refund and say how sorry we are and try to make it up to the person who is heart broken by the problem. Malinda has done that.

She is not planning on repeating that breeding.

Lets all try to be a little nicer. We all love the dogs and we all have a great passion for the GSD. We dont need to bash each other. There is plenty of room for everyone to succeed.
