PD is one health problem that CAN be eradicated very quickly so why not do it !.
The Jaquenetta PD results page should be welcomed not shunned.
There is no need to dramatise on it Bazza by trying to turn this thread away from the original purpose of it. Perhaps the moderators should be looking at the trouble makers and not the people who are trying to do their best for the future of the GSD breed.

Bazza
The whole of the international GSD community isn't turning a blind eye to it. Did you read the advice of the Dutch VDH in respect of the test? The advice offered by geneticists?
Germany will not acknowledge PD, in the same way that they don't acknowledge haemophilia - so yes, they do have a bad case of ostrich syndrome. Luckily, we didn't stick our heads in the sand on that one.

What others are not doing would not seem to me to be necesssarily a good yardstick for measurement of we could/should do in terms of breed health.

I can only assume that Shepherdguy is one of Abnor's ra ra team; there can be no other reason for ignoring the very obvious.
Shepherdguy says:
You know as well as I do Videx you cannot check the number of GSD's tested in the Uk by using the PD page on the Jaquenetta website. By using this page you can only rely on the honesty of the breeders using this page that submit their PD test results!!!
EXACTLY what this thread has jeopardised by its general tone and thinly veiled threats, (see pages 1 & 2 in particular) at breeders.
I will test my dog, I will not publish the results on the Jaquenetta PD page. (Nothing personal re: Jaquennetta site, which is excellent) A few people that I have spoken to will be doing likewise.
Abnor you are the most negative energy on this board, with nothing good to say about the look of our dogs or the health of our dogs; Christ. you wouldn't even support "us" in our efforts to get the KC to make health testing mandatory! Not a priority for you huh?
You sit like a spider in its web, waiting for Videx to post, then you're on it, like a duck on a June bug!
I was very interested to learn the apparent instigator of the PD page... more to this than meets the eye. No surprises there!

Sorry... had to edit as some of my post was cut off!

2) Shepherdguy you are so stupid to think PD can be eradicated from our breed either quickly or even over 50 years.
Let me tell you very clearly:
The perceived benefits of PD testing, and carefully considering all of the likely resultant consequences, are far outweighed by the considerable damages to our breed.
Most people writing on this thread cannot and will not begin to grasp the numerous negative consequences of the PD test..
Be assured the PD DNA test will NEVER take off. Many of you will take months and most probably years to even begin to understand why? Many will NEVER understand why, and who cares?

Dear MissBeeb
Thank you for earlier pointing out the tone that I should adopt on here. Perhaps a little self application would be in order, and perhaps you could share it with your other friends.
I think you are losing the plot, since I was replying to Bazza, not Videx.
Oh dear Shepherdguy, another one who dared to have an opinion that was similar to mine, and some other highly respected breeders. I don't run in a pack MissBeeb, that's much more your style more than mine.
NOW I will reply to Videx:
So when geneticists say that this can be easily eradicated within quite a short time frame, without damage to breed or bloodlines (if implemented sensibly, using good breeding practices) they don't actually have any idea what they are talking about? LOL where did you obtain your degree in genetics?
I smile at your 'embedded command' that 'PD testing will never take off'. It won't if you and your few cohorts can bully people out of it, of that I am sure!
The question is why in the world would you WANT this initiative to fail?

by missbeeb on 14 December 2010 - 15:12
Oh, you run in a pack alright Abnor... albeit a small one. I reply as befits this thread of yours. Not losing the plot (interesting word, plot) generalising, as is your want, tho' I am not inclined to later deny.
Had you not adopted the tone you did, this thread may have served a useful purpose (not that that was ever your intention) as it is, many have been alienated. Why do you want it to fail?

by Abby Normal on 14 December 2010 - 15:12
So are you saying that ultimately this thread and it's content are valuable, you just can't agree with anything because of my tone on one or two occasions? So you will set against the whole thing because of me and my tone? Perhaps a more adult approach to something so important might be better.
Why does Videx want it to fail so badly? Think it through. Why does SueB not want to test her bitches before putting them to German VA dogs with 'unknown' status? Have you thought that through?
Mo had it exactly right, and sums up beautifully the appropriate use of the test, and why for the sake of the breed we should use it, incorporating compassion and commonsense.
Anyone disagree ?
