"It is NOT Possible to have the 'best of both worlds"

nothing wrong with breeding dogs with good conformation who can work.

Hi for those who do not know me I am Samantha Hall and work along side my grandparents David and Joan Hall of the Gayville Kennel... I totally agree with David, something must be done, I think we should break away from the kennel club and should have been done long ago. Now as for the Breed Standard! Yes we have German Shepherds and Alsations however we all have one breed standard the Alsations do not have a seperate one! But have stuck in a rut.. I am to outraged by the photo that is on the KC Website it does not resemble anything like what the breed standard proposes.

The KC want everything there own way.. yes I do agree changes to need to be made, however going backwards which is basically what they are suggesting is insane, they want us to change our standard and do everything they ask, but they will not do things which we have been asking like stop registering non standard colours like Champagne etc how is this helping the breed??? its not its lining the pockets of the KC, it works both ways.

Everythig changes over time we dont still walk around in loin cloths and say UG!!!!

So why should animals be any different i did some research and when the KC suggested changing the breed standard and saying the modern GSD could not do a  days work then i say to everyone have a look at the Kirschental kennel exceptionally successful and the modern GSD and they have progressed through the years and are of the type we are showing today!

The KC Do not want to let us have our say because they know we can justify ourselves and they would not have a leg to stand on. why should we be punished for progression?

The GSDs of old look like Dutch Shepherds.
Probably worked that way as well..old videos from the 1930s prove that much. View them on Youtube. Old Schutzhund Breed & working tests, Not sport trials.

The Dutch dont register their dogs, they dont Show their dogs, they dont care about 'Conformation', looks or 'Best of Both Worlds'
They are consumed with ONE thing.....Performance.    Everything else follows.

The GSD club must assess its priorities for the dogs.
Work Or show.  Breeding Tests, Not sport trials.  A Working standard with slight tolerances for deviation.

A true Working Registry Must be developed, as Germany has for their Working Hunting dogs ie JGHV.
Get RID of the Politics, Money, Egos and Dr. Frankenstein Breeders.

I sincerely hope the committees of our GSD Breed Clubs in the United Kingdom are communicating with each other in order to ensure their GSD Breed Council representative attends the meeting with a clear mandate to support a split between the GSD and the Alsatian. Our GSD Breed here in the UK needs clear and concise leadership on this crucial issue. This is not a time for dithering!

The BAGSD and The GSD League, as WUSV Clubs, NEED TO SHOW A LEAD HERE. If either Club FAILS our GSD Breed on this, WE WILL KNOW WHICH OF THESE TWO CLUB'S LEADERSHIP IS "WORKING WITH THE KENNEL CLUB" and NOT for our GSD breeds future, but against it.

David, I will certainly be taking that view with me to the Breed council meeting on Saturday.  This debate has been very interesting, enlightening and has told us all we need to know from both sides of the coin.  I agree with your formulation of a plan to ask the K.C. for reason first... after all, you catch more flys with a honey pot than with a sledge-hammer, and then if the hammer has to come out, then it has to come out.    Apparently, the KC have agreed to take the hideous picture of a "dog" off the breed standard and replace it.   With what I wonder, and is that their way of moving a little.  I hope they will know by representation of the main clubs of which I am a member of both, that more needs to be done than changing their picci.

I like Reasons post regarding the plan of action too...... his costings make a little bit of sense do they not? So there are options with a bit of luck if the big doors of London close before the job is done.properly.

Lets go for a bit of fantasy.... lets choose a committee to steer if things need to be steered in the way of a different system for us.   My committee would be

Bill Owen - David Payne - Reason - Liz - Paul Rattigan Sheila Rankin (but we wont sit her by David).  All passionate people about our breed, not afraid to rock the boat to get their point over, and not afraid to call a spade a spade, even if its a shovel some-times.  Faint heart on these issues get no-one anywhere.   OK folks... choose your committee........

The "GSD PARTNERSHIP" consists of The GSD Breed Council, and The BAGSD, and The GSD League, already has a committee. This committee met with The Kennel Club on the 20th November 2008. This committee fully represents our German Shepherd Dog breed here in the United Kingdom, and includes our two WUSV member Clubs.

This committee offers the German Shepherd Dog (GSD) in the UK its greatest hope for its future. I sincerely hope they do NOT let us down, either collectively or individually, on this very important matter.

so .....

my fantasy committee would sort that one out then?   I am not being flippant here, although I jest - it is a very serious matter, and I wholeheartedly agree, we must all be aware that the kennel club will favour the Alsations if given any room at all.  Mo
