Actually speaking as someone who was born in Africa and have also visited there over the years, most spread of aids is due to rape of the women or force prostitution and then babies born with it there. It is the same with areas of other countries where women are used as tourist atractions to feed their children or are brutilized many times in their lives. I imagine the hurricane tent cities must be having issues simular to this now since they say all females even infants are raped regularly and still no one have moved them to better living.

Sadly this conversation reminds me of a painful day while I was living in Pensylvania. I went across the street from my home to the country store and over heard a few of the ignorant locals blaming Africans for all of aids and their ideas for extermination of the country and it's people. to me it does not matter where it started. It is here. It is not airborn, so with some work and education it is something that can be controlled and made in to fewer victims if people would work at it instead of blaming where it started and move on with eradicating it. Personally after being in the open markets and spending time in villiges in different parts of Africa, I have yet to see anyone using monkey or offering monkey as a food source. I think it would be a very hungry persons in the back brush areas who would be eating them and that is a far cry from spreading aids world wide as it has IMO. However it started, I cannot believe it was a whole country eating affected monkeys over the issues of those women that get raped as a part of life that has spread the disease as far and wide to the ports and out. To get a fix on aids we must not make those that are carriers or ill with it feel like they should be exterminated or that they are no longer a person so that they cone forward and get tested without prosecution no matter how they came to have an issue. Shame will be this diseases fuel to keep spreading like a wildfire. Where there is shame there are secrets and that is the ignitor we need to extinguish. I would hope if any of my friends or family were infected they would trust me to help them and be there for them. I would not want them to feel judged or attacked instead of being supported in their time of need. I have yet to know anyone personally with aids and hope it never does find anyone I care about especially my sons. I have made sure they have the tools they need in life and hope that it greatly lessens the chances, but I also could have caught in during the years I worked rescue or even the time my dentist slipped pulling a tooth from my mouth and cut himself through his latex gloves while doing it. I am glad I am clean from my tests for it aftr years of being in a higher risk through helping people. People who have aids should not have to feel people condem them as a bad person by reading it here or hearing it anywhere.

Chimpanzees were the source of AIDs; it is spread via unprotected sex, dirty needles, and contamniated blood transfusions.

The article states in the very first sentence "confirmed as the probable source of the HIV virus "

     Probable:

    1. Likely to happen or to be true: War seemed probable in 1938. The home team, far ahead, is the probable winner.
    2. Likely but uncertain; plausible.
    3. Theology Of or relating to opinions and actions in ethics and morals for whose lawfulness intrinsic reasons or extrinsic authority may be adduced.

More scientific fact needs to be available on this subject IMO. In Africa you have to gaurd against chimps and baboons from comeing into the huts and stealing/ eating infants as an easy food source. Who is to say it is not the chicken or the egg first conundrum? I cannot imagine a human eating a raw meat monkey where it would be likly to be infected versus the primate eating a raw infected human personally.

GSDNewbie,  I hold nothing against anyone who has AIDS.  I feel sorry for those who got it due to rape, especially, and for the ones it is passed on to.   I don't blame Africans for all of the AIDs, I just know it's more common there, please don't mis-state what I have said.  My only thing in regards to this was that typically (not always) AIDs is a result of what the bible deemed sinful.....Rape obviously, and homosexuality for that matter. Just as STDs can come from having multiple partners.....These are things that happen, not always, but typically, things that the scriptures speak against.  It is a terrible thing for anyone to be raped, and sad that they had to suffer this as will their children because of someone else who did that to them.  I in no way ever, or would ever say we should make them feel like they should be exterminated.  My point like I just stated it was because of "someone" (typically) going against what the scriptures say we should not do.  And in the case of rape that would be the one who raped the other person, and at no fault of the innocent victim or their child.

I just celebrated my 24th wedding anniversary last wed. I dated my husband for six years before we married. He is my best friend and we still have a close relationship and still have forsaken all others all of these years. I to believe in the sanctity of marriage strongly. I would still find out the true statistics of aids before spouting things about it and put oneself in the shoes of someone who has to live under the conditions in Africa before speaking about them. Do not say you will never, until you find out if you have to to survive.  True poverty, hunger, and degredation does make a difference to how  human is shaped in their lifes path.

I'm not the one who said it came from monkey meat or whatever other types of meat it was.  I "can" say, and with a good conscience however that people anywhere in the world who practice homosexuality, and those who rape, put themselves others at risk of these things and are in deed causing others to get it. That is a fact.

Do not say I will never? Never what? Live in those conditions? I never did say that wouldn't happen to me, I know those things could happen.  But I also know many who are poor are often more greatful for what they do have, and that many who are rich (rich to me would even be what many considered lower class in the states, as it truly is rich compared to many others in other countries) are often times less greatful for what they have and want so much more.  If true poverty comes to me, that won't change my devotion to God and what is ordained in the scriptures.   Of course I hope it doesn't happen.......but it very well could happen to many of us in the future.
