Thank you Jim.  Could I have some comment on this.  Do you think I've bee fair in estimating where the withers and start of croup are placed?  Does anyone else see a convex curve in the back?

Hi Wildmoor, thanks for your response.  The first conditions you mention..... are you suggesting these have a connection with roach back?  The breeds you say have compressed spinal condition...if these are directly attributable to roach backs in general, ie not specific to the breeds, or specific to the particular type of roach that these breeds have, why do not all dogs with a roach back suffer this compression?

The two breeds I mentioned, Bedlington and Borzoi, suppose they didn't have so severe a crouch that their hindquarters were nearly touching the floor, say they were like the average WG show winner. Would you then consider them to be roached?

Could you now give your opinion on the backline of Jim's dog.

Oh sorry my dog, the one in the avatar.  I don't have an photos of her standing and she's long gone now.  She's a daughter of Uran and from the 80s when toplines were much less sloping and curved.  She may have had a very slight roach but much less than is normal in today's show dogs.
